The Ultimate Vocalist Showdown

Mark and I, along with a little bit of help from Derek and Keaton, are orchestrating a brand-new challenge for you all: You, our forum members, get to vote on who the best vocalist in rock music today is.

The idea came to me about a week ago, when I had a random play list playing in Winamp. With every change of genre and vocals, I said to myself, “Wow, wouldn’t it be cool to decide who the best vocalist is?”

Actually, I didn’t do that. I was bored, so I talked to Mark about this. He agreed, thinking that it’d be a great way to let you guys voice your opinions. So, here we are… voting to see who the best vocalist in rock is.

There are going to be thirty-three (33) weeks of the first round of this huge, huge challenge. The first round has vocalists who are in similar bands, and who have similar vocals. We didn’t want any bias during the first week—you know, having someone like Jonathon Davis of KoRn against someone like Ryan Key from Yellowcard. It’s just not fair.

Once the first 33 weeks and round one have passed, we will move onto round two, three and so on, until we have but one vocalist remaining. That vocalist will be crowned LPA’s vocal champion and we will contact him (or her) personally and give them a dollar.

OK, so maybe we won’t do that. But it will still be fun to decide on the best vocalist of this point and time. I’m sure some of you have sat there listening to music, and went, “Wow, these vocals are really good.” Suddenly, a different song plays. “Whoa, wait… These vocals are better.” That happens to me a lot. But maybe I need to stop listening to so much music.

If you only know one vocalist of the two that you are voting for, or you do not know either, do not blindly vote for the one you know or guess if you don’t know either. In a way, that’s biased voting, and we ask that you do not do that. If you do not know the vocalists, search for their official web site and listen to clips of their songs, then decide. If you can’t do that, please do not vote.

I’ve stated that this will last 33 weeks. If necessary (and I’m sure I’ll have to do this), the last 10 weeks or so of the challenge will be merged together so that the voting can pass by quicker. When the second round comes up, will have two separate votes at a time, so that it shall pass by quicker. We don’t want to keep you here until you graduate law school, move out and support your family with all the money you earned being a lawyer.

For the first week of round one, we have Christian Machado of Ill Niño and Jonny Santos of SpineShank. Cast your votes wisely.

Jonny Santos, he can sing when he wants too, I just don't think that Christian is a good singer. Still like both bands though!

Anyways, no SERJ TANKIAN?No MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN? Thats pretty dumb (IMO) to not include them. I don't recognize lots of those names, though!I don't agree with putting on Jacoby Shaddix. I love PR but he's a really weak singer....
