...As LP's first single for Meteora. Like most band's first single, this song is meant to give fans an image which is not usually consistent with the albums style. I mean no other songs were like Papa Roach's She Loves Me Not on LHT for example. You could also speculate that One Step Closer was released to grab the attention of 'metal-heads' so they won't dismiss them as 'nu-metal' and 'pop-rock'. Now that they have gained some recognition, I think they released SIB because its really catchy and slow, kinda like In the End, and maybe its a ploy to keep its 'teenie' fanbase to buy this album, and they can take some heat from the 'metal-head' crowd. If they released a heavy OSC type song, those In the End fanatics may not be as willing to buy it, so you know what I mean??

Not to say the either SIB or ITE are bad (both kick ass songs!) but SIB was a strategic first release on Linkin Park's part that will probably succeed in selling them more albums. SIB is catchy, easy to sing along to, and overall radio friendly (which isn't always a bad thing!).

What I am also implying is the rest of the album might be full of nice and heavy tracks! I wouldn't let SIB give you a wrong dillusion of Meteora!

I think ur right cuz most of HT is not as heavy as 1SC. SIB probably isnt alot like meteora for reasons like u said and because LP said this album is harder and heavyer than HT.

I would actually like it heavy! Like the riff from A.06! What a sweet song! If we have beauties like that on Meteora I will be delighted! :D

    - to the first post -
I do believe you are correct in your assumption I mean the preview we heard on Brad's guitar in LPTV4 was a sample of a hard rock song that will be on the album, I dont think breaking the habit will be to hard however they did say it would be a heavier album your theory is pretty good, I like it ! ;)

No. The first year you got the EP, then the second year you got the LPU 2.0 Limited Edition CD.

    I disagree. Why?

BECAUSE "SOMEWHERE I BELONG" IS NOT SOFT! It's harder than most songs on Hybrid Theory! WTF DO YOU PEOPLE HAVE IN YOUR EARS????

    God damn.

well its pretty much like ite because it goes from mikes part which is soft and when chester sings in ite the song gets harder and same story with sib so he does make sense in a way

    Please let me clarify, Akuma!

I NEVER said it was soft!I said it was a bit slower tempo and it also has a really easy-going feel and the optimism that even LP said wouldn't be felt on the rest of the album. So you see this is probably much different from the rest of Meteora.

Just letting you know that I never said it was soft! But Papercut, OSC, With You, By Myself, A Place For My Head, Forgotten, and in parts Crawling were all heavier than SIB, in my opinion Akuma. And thats over half of the album!

And why did you get so mad ('God Damn', 'WTF')! And I didn't even said it was soft!

A.06 is the extended version of the LP.com intro with the girl and the spraypaint. Its on LPU V2.0.

The rest of the song (56 seconds in length i think) is a riff and then Joe Hahn coming in and scratching over it and it sounds awesome. Rob really does an awesome job in that too!

As you can see, this Theory is correct... SIB was released for the reasons that Methybrea specified!

All the other stuff is heavier and sounds a bit more evolved! Some ppl may not be able to take the difference thats why they released SIB, which is still is a great song!
