The Rainbow A rainbow far off in the distance My eyes glow for the gold at the end Even if there is none the journey would be appreciated So I set forth down the long winding roads To reach that distant rainbow As I get there disoriented Things aren't what they had seemed Of an adventure long Looking off into that darkness black I stand on this empty black Concrete soft, illusions dwell I'm sinking now... This is a dream; not real But I can hear my own desperate screams Not concrete in the least Buried I hope away this deadly sleep Eyes open but still I stay Underneath crypts and stones I wonder how long until I lay Completely still with broken bones Crickets chirp underneath the ground And crawl over eyes so dull While grass stains my damp skin It's not a pot of gold that I've found But a misery that fills me full Before my final breath I recall a prayer Never religious the words ashamedly hide Memory shot into empty air Not long until I weep then die Maybe I'll yet awake on a quiet night Or die as the sun is cloaked by silver moonlight And someone will come on a perfect day Spotting a rainbow in a perfect sky To set forth on the journey felt To stand onto the dirt which underneath I lay C&C welcome.
