Any tennis fans around here? Only 2 days left before the 4th and final Grand Slam of the year kicks off in Flushing Meadows, New York City. It's a big sporting event and I thought it deserved its own thread. The hope of Great Britain, Andy Murray will be a strong favourite to end his nation's wait for 75 years to have a Slam winner after winning his 5th Masters title in Toronto earlier this month. Roger Federer is the second favourite, the 16 time Grand Slam champion who is considered to be the greatest player of all time by many, made up for the disappointment of back to back QF losses in Roland Garros and Wimbledon by reaching the final in Toronto and defending his title in Cincinnati Masters. Rafael Nadal has never had much success in New York, mainly due to the speed of the courts and light balls that does not suit his counter pounching game, bt he is the Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion and is always a contender for Slam titles. The draw was made yesterday and it looks like Nadal has a very nice and easy passage up until the semis where he will potentially meet Murray. http://www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/draws/ms/index.html?promo=subnav Discuss all the action from Flushing Meadows in this thread, who is your favourite to win the final Slam of the year? US Open Homepage: http://www.usopen.org/en_US/index.html
I'm rooting for Djokovic, it's high time he won a Grand Slam again. I honestly don't think Murrey stands any chance. Soderling might be a big surprise, so watch out for him. Btw I saw a couple of matches last year on US Open and it was such a great experience, I hope I come again pretty soon
Well, Djoker has been in dire form all season, but he usually performs well here: 2007: Runner-up, lost to Federer 2008: SF, lost to Federer 2009: SF, lost to Federer As for Soderling, definitely a massive danger to anyone. He became the first player to beat Federer in the QF of a Slam since 2003 in the French Open this year and they are scheduled to meet in QFs here again, that would be interesting.
Yeah, he's such a strange player that you never know what to expect. I don't know if you watched Cincinnati a couple of weeks back, he played with such vigour against Nalbandian and beat him and then in the next match agains Roddick it was like he didn't even care about the match. It's what really pisses me off about him, his unpredictability. Btw, Del Potro's not playing, right?
Well, Roddick is a bad matchup for him, Djoker usually has trouble handling big servers. It was his 4th loss in a row to Roddick if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, Del Potro isn't playing unfortunately, but is expected to return to the tour In Bangkok next month. Another big name that is missing USO due to injury is Tsonga which happens to be my favourite player BTW, you mentioned Nalby, I think he is a dark horse here.
Federer's through the legs winner against Dabul last night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8k__4ezIyI
