This thread is one that was waiting to happen. Also, speculation and info on the new album should be startng to leak out, they'll definately have something out by before the tour starts I would guess. So any info please post here! And yeah if at all possible i'm THERE for the Sept. 25th date, i will probably be living quite near the ACC when I go to school next fall so that would be amazing, the Chili Peppers and TMV together.
Yah I just got into the mars volta recently and picked up both of their cd's for 15 bucks. Thats a steal of a deal to get into any band. I have only enjoyed their music and I am sur eit will continue to grow on me even more. Does anybody know about a side project that the mars volta have with some guys form led zeppelin and some other band? I heard an advertisement for the album on the radio yesterday and can't remember for the life of me what its called.
I have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. To my knowledge, they have no side-project with anyone from Led Zeppelin. But of course I could be wrong. Nonetheless, we have news from Theory (the webdesigner for Mars Volta): The new album is finished. It was produced by Omar Rodriguez. It was mixed in New York City by Rich Costey. He says "Im sure youll find the name out soon enough". The artwork is being done by Storm Thorgerson, who did the previous albums' artwork, along with many other bands, like Muse, Led Zeppelin, and most notably Pink Floyd. What a wonderful birthday present to me.
The only side projects that anyone in TMV have are De Facto, Omar's solo project, and Cedric's solo project. I feel like I'm forgetting one.
I guess you can count the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Quintet, since you listed his solo project and I assume that's with the whole "A Manuel Dexterity" thing. And there is OmarOmarOmar, which was the jams with Flea and Frusciante. And just for future references: Pre-At the Drive - In: Cedric: Dregtones, Phantasmagoria, The Fall on Deaf Ears, Faus Omar: Startled Calf, Just Like Fucking Sicko, Thrasho, Punko, Metal Fuckin, Funko, Misfits (not the actual Misfits), Fuckin Exploited, Sicko Fucks *at the drive - in period* Post-At the Drive - In: Cedric: DeFacto Omar: DeFacto, OmarOmarOmar, Omar Rodriguez - Lopez quintet, A Manuel Dexterity Soundtrack Other Mars Volta members (includes bands before joining TMV, side projects are in bold): Juan: Racer X, Omar Rodriguez - Lopez quintet Ikey: Long Beach Dub Allstars, Free Moral Agents, Pocket Lint, of OC's Power Pop group Teen Heroes, My Super Hero Cheesy Love Ska Marcel: Omar Rodriguez - Lopez quintet Adrian: Omar Rodriguez - Lopez quintet Paul: Sparta Jon: Golden, Royal Trux. As of now, DeFacto has disbannded due to the death of Jeremy in 2003.
The quintet is just who he plays his new solo self-titled record with live. They're not really a true recording band. Casey, that's all I'm thinking too, but now you've made me think there might be another, dammit.
The mars volta are amazing. Its the kind of music i've been looking for after listening to many indie rock and alternative bands. I've been listening to them now for about a week, and i already want to buy one of their albums. But its pretty amazing what a two man group could produce in music
I've never heard the Frusciante/Flea jams called OmarOmarOmar before. That's one hell of a weird name.
In the jam I saw, Omar didn't even play a lead part in it. But I guess OmarOmarOmar rolls off the tongue better than FruscianteFruscianteFrusciante, so that explains it.
They played other shows, and I guess they must alternate. I'm not sure. But yeah, OmarOmarOmar sounds better than FruscianteFruscianteFrusciante or FleaFleaFlea.
That OmarOmarOmar jam thing wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be. I mean, it was really neat but it didn't blow my mind as much as things usually do when they involve Omar. ...and I don't know about that, Franny. I think FleaFleaFlea has a nice ring to it...
Yeah, I like the first movement of it (before the break). Flea is great on bass, and I love Omar's facial expressions, especially when Flea and John busted into that latin salsa groove. I thought it was great, but not..um, mindblowing. I wish there was a studio recording or something of it though.
Huh? He didn't sing at all. I don't really think he can sing. He yelled back-up in At The Drive-In and a few parts live with Mars Volta, like on This Apparatus Must Be Unearthed.
You should hear him when he sings Iggy's parts live during Roldex Propganda. Pure humor, which just proves, Cedric is the only real person that should sing for the band.
Haha, Omar's singing makes me giggle a little. It's silly, I suppose. Silly singing is why I listen to half the bands I listen to. I like music that makes me giggle.
More news, but it's very unsubstansiated and is just a rumor as of now, whereas the stuff about producers and that the album done was completely true. The new album is 7 tracks and is called "Eclectic Guideline"; it will open with the 25 minute "Medicated Prophet", a spacey and intergalactic sounding opus. Again, its most likely fake. But however, if this has any weight, a 25-minute opening track would be crazy. Also, who of you have heard both or either of Omar's solo records? What'd you think of them?
