PLEASE LIST YOUR FAVORITE LP ALBUM (IF IT'S LIVING THINGS, PUT LT AND YOUR SECOND FAVORITE) WITH YOUR TIER LIST FOR FURTHER DATABASE PURPOSES. THANK YOU! I've never been a fan of rating songs from 0-10. I'm more partial to the idea of a tier list. Here's the basic idea: There are 6 tiers in which a song can be rated. It's purely subjective to your own point of view. I'll be compiling the overall opinions of the forum via a point system and updating this post with a definitive tier list. GOD TIER (SS TIER) - This is reserved for songs that you consider a complete mastery of music. If you can't think of anything WRONG with the song, it goes here. Worth 5 points. S TIER - Songs that are just short of perfection are S Tier. Worth 4 points. A TIER - This is for songs that are great but have shortcomings that prevent it from reaching near-perfection. Worth 3 points. B TIER - Good songs that have the potential to be great, but fall short. Worth 2 points. C TIER - This is for songs that you are ambivalent towards. The best description here is "average". You skip these songs about 50% of the time. Worth 1 point. F TIER - You just don't like these songs. At all. These songs are the ones you skip without fail. Worth nothing. So let's see your tiers! THE OFFICIAL TIER LIST! IT WILL SOON BE AVAILABLE IN A PRETTY GRAPHIC. UPDATED AS OF ROBOT MAN'S POST.GOD TIER Castle of Glass (0.79) Lost in the Echo (1.22) S TIER Powerless (0.90) Roads Untraveled (1.04) In My Remains (1.09) Victimized (1.19) Skin to Bone (1.28) A TIER I'll Be Gone (1.15) Lies Greed Misery (1.18) Until It Breaks (1.34) Tinfoil (1.33) B TIER Burn It Down (1.03) C TIER --- F TIER --- What are those numbers in parenthesis? Read the FAQ below concerning standard deviation. OVERALL ALBUM TIER: S TIER (1.29) FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSHow are you calculating the overall song tiers? We're using a method called median. You've probably heard about it in school. Basically, you list out all your ratings in order like so: 1, 3, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5 Then you choose the middle number. In this case, it's 4. What if the group of numbers is even? In the case of an even number of votes, we end up with 2 middle numbers. We average those to get the median. And what happens if THAT number is something weird, like 4.5? At that point, I will be rounding DOWN by default. A 4.5 is S TIER, but hasn't made it to GOD/SS TIER. I will NOT be rounding up or down for the graphic that is in the making. I voted 1 on a song that everyone likes or vice versa! What happens there? If you're one of only a few that has a vastly different opinion on a song, your vote will not bring down the overall score of that song like it would if we were using the mean (straight averaging). Rather, your score affects the standard deviation of that song. What is standard deviation? In layman's terms, standard deviation is a number that represents how varied the responses are. For example, a song that gets voted as A TIER 98% of the time will have a small standard deviation. In retrospect, if the median is A TIER but the votes are all across the map everywhere, the standard deviation will be bigger. TL;DR The smaller the number, the more consistent the voting was. How will you represent that? In the text version of the tier list, the std. dev will be represented by the number in parenthesis after each song. FYI: I'll be double-posting for the sake of keeping my personal tier list off the main post. I want to change my tier list. Can I do that? Yes! Just make sure you PM me or post in this thread with a URL to your post so I can change your values! Why are you asking for my favorite album? It's a surprise. Why do you hate Meteora so much? What's a Meteora?
