Well, it seems that CD's have finally been replaced. The new music format is "SlotMusic", which is pretty much a microSD card with music preloaded on it. Im not exactly sure if this is definitely going to replace CD's, but the four big music labels (Sony, Warner, Universal, and EMI), have all signed on for it, so it kind of seems like a sure thing. Besides that, I think that the market needs a new media to maybe boost sales. I was always suspecting that SD cards would replace CD's, and to be honest im glad. These cant be scratched, they have more space (which means better sound quality and more songs), you can plug them directly into a lot of MP3 players and cell phones, their portable, and this probably means that digipack cases will also replace plastic ones, which I like because the plastic ones always break. Some other random trivia: - The MP3's will have no DRM. - Wal Mart and Best Buy are currently signed on to start selling them this holiday season. - The initial batch will be of 29 albums by artists such as: Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Robin Thicke, New Kids on the Block, Weezer, Usher, Chris Brown, Akon, Leona Lewis, and Elvis Presley. - They will be sold for $7-$10 (AWESOME!!) - "The card will also come with a USB sleeve so it can be plugged in directly to any USB-enabled computer." http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-10047311-93.html
The important thing I've noticed there is the price. Finally, these labels are realising, and finding different methods. I like having a CD though, so it's a little disappointing that these may replace them. The feeling of having a cd and looking at the art and everything, it's what makes it great, it was just the price...
Yeah, the price is one of the coolest things about this format. However, i'm assuming that they will come with cover art. How else will they package them? Maybe it will come in a box or something with the cover art and booklet and stuff inside or something? Will see when these come out, I guess.
Yeah, I'm sure it'll still be packaged in a similar way, but the feeling of having the CD itself is just as special as all the art etc, you know? It'll be weird how they balance it all out, considering the size. These things are cheap to sell, but the packaging costs may be similar if they're putting all the album stuff in, so we may just end up back to square one, with them raising prices to fund all the lyric booklets etc
I think that the cost is including everything (packaging, booklets, etc.). In regards to the feeling of having a CD, I guess it will be different, but just imagine it as a small, plastic, square CD.
That's i was thinking, cept CD players rather than in the car because i don't drive obviously. IMO the idea seem pretty fail. I wonder where else i can get music that doesn't play on my cd player, but i can put on my phone and ipod and what not? Off the internet for free. I am a big fan of album artwork and packaging, but not so much as the music itself. And i assume it'll be more liek $15 in australia because, well, it's australia
So wait...the music on these things will already be in mp3 format? Sorry, but I have never and will never pay any amount of money for lossy-format music.
