Alright, so I've decided to make a "New Album Thread" to answer everyone's questions about the upcoming follow-up to 'Meteora'. Anyone can forward people this link whenever a new thread is made asking about the new album. This is an information thread, not a discussion thread, therefore don't go on long rants like how you'd like the album.

When will the new album come out?
Mike Shinoda, has said that a new album is unlikely to be out until late 2005 or after.

Speculation would say that the new album will hit stores in late 2005, early 2006, when looking at how long it took to create 'Meteora'. 'Meteora' took Linkin Park 18 months to create, and this can be divided into four stages:

    Stage 1 - Bus Studio
-- The band started writing parts for the new album during their Ozzfest tour in Summer of 2001. They continued doing this until the 'Hybrid Theory' touring cycle ended in early 2002. (Estimated time: 7 months)
    Stage 2 - Mike's Home Studio
-- Pre-production started in early 2002 in Mike's home studio, and continued until July. Linkin Park record demos of all their songs before going into the studio, so this is where the songs were first conceptualized as a whole song. (Estimated time: 5 months)
    Stage 3 - NRG Studios
-- Linkin Park entered NRG Studios in August of 2002 with full demo versions of their songs, and started working with producer Don Gilmore to get their final versions. This process continued until December of 2002. (Estimated time: 5 months)
    Stage 4 - Soundtrack Studios
-- Linkin Park entered Soundtrack Studios to mix with Andy Wallace in December of 2002. Full recorded versions were now being pieced together, equalized, and organized. (Estimated time: 1 month)

Finally, with those 18 months put behind them, post-production came. Album title choosing, song title choosing, promotion, interviews, touring rehearsals, video shooting, single choosing, it all went on until March 25th, when the album was released. (Estimated time: 3 months)

So with Linkin Park entering the studios in October, we can assume the guys already have ideas in their heads and songs already conceptualized. They had 3 months between March and June where they didn't tour to possibly convene to conceptualize the new albums sound. Stages one and two are done. Stage three, in the studio, is likely to take 5-6 months from October 2004 to finish recording. We're talking about March-April 2005. Then there's stage four; the mixing. Give that a month, and we're at June 2005. Three months for post-production and you've got September 2005 (Fall 2005). Give them a month or two of delays and the likeliest time the album will be put out is October/November (or late fall) 2005.

Update, November 16th, 2004; Mike told MTV.com the band have not gone into the studio yet to record the new album. This means the album recording process will be delayed. There is no definate time in which the band plans on going into the studio.

Update, January 6th, 2005; Conflicting reports indicate a variety of times the album could come out, even though the band hasn't even visited recording studios as of yet.

01:: The head of Warner Bros records, Edgar Bronfman, said in an Globe and Mail interview that the album will come out in 2005.
02:: The official Warner Bros Germany site for Linkin Park posted a news article on their website citing a fourth-quarter 05 release of the new album.

What will the new album sound like?
    In a recent interview with MTV.com, Brad said the following about the new album;

Now, before everyone goes crazy and starts jumping from buildings screaming "Linkin Park are going pop!", listen to me. Brad does not say he wants the songs to sound like "Breaking the Habit", he just wants to use the same creative model they used for "Breaking The Habit". The song is Linkin Park's most creative song, because it's not their trademark heavy-riffed, rapped-verses, sung-choruses, screamed-bridge song. It's innovative because they use live strings and a quiet guitar, and Mike branches off into a darker territory with the lyrics. They want to be more creative and continue to "push the envelope" creativity-wise so their next album doesn't start sounding like the previous two.

Will There Be Any Guest Appearances/Collaborations On The New Album?

No. In an MTV.com interview with Mike Shinoda, Mike denounced rumours of collaborations or guests appearing on the new album.

Other quotes concerning the new album:

    Hai Magazine;
In short: Linkin Park are going into the studio in October, the new album is likely to come out in Fall of 2005, and it's going to be a more creative album.

I would like to encourage everyone to post any additions I may have missed, but make sure they haven't already been posted. Lets make this the biggest, most comprehensive thread about the new album.

Mike also said that they want to offer the fans something new and something that dosen't sound so much like Hybrid Theory or Meteora, but still contained the Linkin Park kinda sound. He also said "Trust me, we won't leave our fans unsatified [for the new album]" Gimme some time to find the link...

I have a question. What is "downtuned"? I mean I thought they always played with the guitars in Drop D Tuning. So isn't that downtuned? I'm learing guitar and they say no tuning is right. What's right is how you want your guitar to sound. So yeah... I thought most (if not all) LP songs were in Drop D Tuning so what is "downtuned"?

Well actually, they dont play in Drop D, but their songs can be. They play tuned drop C and down a half step. I dont know what else they can do beyond that without getting very low notes.

Maybe I didn't use the right word, but it was meant to describe how the volume of the guitars is down.

Well that will be cool. But, speaking of reanimation, is there any plan to make Meteora remix?
Mike: (laughs), no kidding. Definitely not. In Reanimation, me and Joe Hahn were only trying to remix a few songs from Hybrid Theory. We didn't expect to remix the whole album. But for now I don't think so. We will focus on the new album. We won't be making a Remix album again.
Phoenix: Yeah clearly in Meteora we focused on the sound, the 3rd album will be different. Who knows there will be “battle rap track” or make an album which contains ballads. We don't know exactly. We will do something different.
Mike: We will bring out our capability and squeeze our creativity in our brain for the next album. Trust me, we won't make our fans unsatisfied.

As an artist I always want to do that. But I guess even when you do your best it could not turn out to be a big blockbuster. I like 3rd albums way more than sophomore albums. Sophomore albums tend to be "safe" in my eyes. They dont' really expand that much. I want LP to really cut loose this album. Especially knowing the care Mike and Joe put into CD art and things like that. It'll be great.

I don't need to say thanks because I've known this information already for quite some time.

But, it's a useful post. Some people don't know anything about the upcoming new album.

Didn't Phoenix say that their hard drive got erased with all the songs they were working on for the new album?

I think he was joking. He was talking about after HT and Reanimation they "already had an album ready to go" that "Got erased because Mike put his collection of industrial strength magnets too close to it" and so they made Meteora instead.

Yeah he had to be joking.

i know what you mean, it's the article in the Singaporean newspaper the day after they performed there. And then i turned on the telly, and saw Phoenix and Joe, freaked out, and heard Phoenix say to the reporter (who had asked them when their new album was gonna come out) that they actually had it saved, into someone's hard drive, but then it crashed and it all got deleted. (both pretending to be sad)They're probably just tired of hearing the same question over and over again.

I hope they will not lose their heavier part , If they build song on the bth idea I don't think their will be a lot of heavy songs :( .Personally I hope A couple heavier songs , couple build on the bth Idea , A couple song Like Dedicated Or step up B) . I'm really looking forward to the new album . Hopefully the take their time and don't disapoint their fans.

I agree. But the didnt say they were gonna change their sound. Theyr just said that the wanna use BTH as a model for their new album. I love that song. I know that for a long time Chester couldnt sing it cuz he would break down in tears. He was very emotionally tied to that song.
