Glad to see @Gibs, the guy that got me into so much good music back in the day, embracing my favorite artist and his best work (Kanye and MBDTF). You are Odaton, right? You have the Porcupine Tree avatar and the love of Dream Theater that I remember.
I’ve had Porcupine Tree and Dream Theater avatars before, but I never have gone under the name of “Odaton.” I see you joined the site in 2003, and I joined in 2012. So I think you’re thinking of someone else.
Post Malone - beerbongs & bentleys I initially wrote off Post Malone because of some pretty crappy singles like White Iverson, but heard some new stuff off the new record, and was surprised by how great the production was. So I decided to pick it up
Pisces Iscariot-The Smashing Pumpkins Machina-The Smashing Pumpkins Vol 3. The Subliminal Verses-Slipknot
Frank Turner - Be More Kind Parkway Drive Reverence Two great releases! So many people bitching about the new Parkway for not being like their old stuff. I'm also a die-heart oldschool fan and I say grow up! They're still as heavy and kickass as ever imo.
Jon Hopkins - Singularity Listening through as we speak and it's shaping up as a nice follow up to his 2013 album, Immunity. Loving this bridge between ambient and EDM he's made
I’m not at liberty to name said band yet as it hasn’t been officially announced, but funny story: The last album I bought was from a fairly popular Minneapolis band on Bandcamp. By sheer coincidence, the band ended up having auditions for a new bass player like a week later. I ended up getting hired. The last band I bought an album from is now the band I play in.
Reason 101 to not move back to Phoenix: Its Too Hot Reason 102 to not move back to Phoenix: Spending too much money at Zia Records Born of Osiris- Tomorrow We Die Alive The Early November- Rooms to Cold Enter Shikari- A Flash Flood of Colour Manchester Orchestra- I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child Manchester Orchestra- Mean Everything to Nothing Manchester Orchestra- Simple Math The Naked and Famous- Passive Me, Aggressive You Real Friends- Everyone That Dragged You Here Real Friends- Maybe This Place Is the Same and We're Just Changing [Singed by the entire band]
I have been recently revisiting Opeth, and noticed that for whatever reason, I had all of their albums on CD but two, so I got one of them! Watershed is a particularly interesting record, as it seems to be a bit divisive amonst fans. It was a signal of the change in sound Opeth were going to make, but it wasn't 100% there yet. It still maintains the death metal sound they're known for while being prog as FUCK. It's almost a progressive rock record in death metal clothing. It's always been a favorite of mine, and has some of the best songs they've recorded.
Si Phili one half of legendary UK Rap group Phi Life Cypher (the other being Life MC) finally released his first solo album in 2016! I didn't have a copy yet (used to listen to it on Spotify) so I bought it on his bandcamp page. This is really good. He always stood in Life MC's shadow kinda, but not anymore. He's just as good imo.
