I'm going to quote a member of the OTEP board on this.. So, uh...basically none of us follow the law when it comes to computer laws..so what do you think of this?
Why cant terrorists fly planes into their building? How the #### can they call for a computer program to be made illegal.
The US has recently passed a lot of lousy acts, the Patriot Act included, that I view as curbing civil liberties, personal freedom and privacy. I can see how the bigwigs want to reduce piracy but this is plain ridiculous. I don't think it'll help a big deal. A lot of sh*t happens in cyberspace - you can't stop everything.
So according to this law...... I can go to jail for stocking some CDs on the shelf at work because someone can buy the CD and distribute MP3s of it online? And, according to the broad spectrum of this law, bands can go to jail because they make CDs which people pirate.
Basic Economics By Odaton: Decreased Civil Liberties = Increased Efficiency Increased Efficiency = Increased Profits Its as simple as that. For this one-week gifted/motivated program I went to I took an economics course, thinking it would have some good debates and stuff. But we were just told all these dumb math laws that were supposed to represent real people and predict them. Its so dumb because you can't use math (logic) to predict humans, they can't predict our emotions/irrational behaviour
Yea, that's bs. I am totally for parents blocking sites from their kids, but the government making sites illegal because they are shared from peer to peer. Whatever
If they do that, then they might as well ban instant messenger programs that allow you to send things. They would have to ban FTP programs, too, since people use FTPs to connect directly into other people's computers to download things. Even if they ban those things, such as DCC (the CTCP protocol), someone will just invent a new protocol for other people to use, and the RIAA will have to ban that, too. They can't win no matter how hard they try because there are always ways around these things.
this is so f***ing crazy. who the hell cares if you use a song, as long as you don't get a profit from it? as for the kazaa thing, i think there is something wrong with that, but you can't tell me that all these people in these bands that are complaining didn't use those programs before they were famous.
