From a new album I'm working on. I wouldn't usually post actual lyrics I use in my songs, but I realized art that makes you think should be shared to everyone willing to see. It's called The Inamorata Pilgrimage, and anyone who would like to listen to the album when it's done can just PM me and I'll e-mail them a free copy. You don't feel any remorse for what you've done You don't feel the need for any reply You don't feel the need to cry You just feel the need to die The bastard son trying to medicate the way You don't study the circumstance You're not waving the people dance You're not studying what we lack You have thoughts, and a ritual, man But I don't think that you're alive You've got the right idea But you're putting in the wrong formula You want to save the world But you don't even know how to grab a girl I don't think that you're alive
You have a very esoteric style of writing, I can see why you are a big fan of bands like The Mars Volta. To me, it is a large stab at religion. About someone who wants to save the world from sin and such, but won't actually look at the world itself and how to save it and instead is just sticking to the archaic rituals and traditions of a religion that was outdated when it first came into being. Kind of a mindless robot. You also seem to make a note of how, despite feeling some apparently global sense of morality and altruism, this person seems to be unable to actually love a girl (religious celibacy and such)...so you wonder if they are even really alive. This piece, upon first reading it I didn't really like it. Something about it's presentation seemed off to me. It seemed to be written in a really blunt and frank style it turned me off, but then when actually thinking about it the actual meaning seemed so esoteric it shocked me. I can't call it a masterpiece, as some spots give me some sort of a high, hippy-esque stream of consciousness style thing that only sounds deep and brilliant to other high hippies, but I can't help but like it. Somehow it grabs me as much as I seem to not want it to. Good job. PS: Are you in the Writer's Competition?
Thanks for the comments! No, I didn't plan on entering in the competition. Here's a clip from the first song I'm releasing from the album.Should be attached? It will probably be done in a month or so. I'm feeling very inspired lately. Haha. EDIT: I put the clip and some info about the album in Other Music.
The reason you're getting that feeling, most likely, is because of my use of the word 'man' in its slangish, hippy way. It was a reference to hippy culture somewhat. I was kind of playing the role of a detached organism looking in on general human life today, and I wanted to address the world in that kind of simple, neutral, and generally friendly word. It's kind of hopeful when someone comes up and say's, "Hey, man. " You get an uplifting feeling, and I think the world needs messages like that right now. It can't save the world as a whole, but it can save worlds.
I really like it, esspecially after reading Esaul's comment, on first read i didn't spot the real meanings behind the phrases.
