Hello. Welcome to the first round of the Great Debate here on LPA. This is my creation, so #### off. No, I kid. Haha. Please, stay and join in on today's great debate.

    Today's Subject:

    'Hurt':
Do you prefer (Trent) Reznor's original better, or (Johnny) Cash's cover of it? Why?

    My answer coming in awhile.

Both versions are very, very good, but ultimately I think Trent's version is better.

Johnny's version has a real earthy, honest feel, and it really is an exellent cover, but there is so much passion in Trent's version of the song (especially live).

Plus, I just happen to (musically) like NIN better then Johnny Cash, but y'know that's just me...

    Reznor's version is better IMO

Cash did a great job, dont get me wrong, But Reznor is a genius and i like his version more

I've heard nine inch nails' version of "Hurt," and I love it. I'll have to listen to Cash's version of the song before I post any opinions, however. Check back to this post within the next 10 years for an edit.

I think that you can't really compare the two. Both are good for what they are.

    Both songs are very good.

But ultimately I prefer Trent Reznor's / Nine Inch Nails version.

Johnny Cash's version was a good acoustic track, but I always feel that he failed to capture the same emotion that Trent was able to bring across as he sung the lyrics. Johnny Cash's version also lost the same "haunting" feeling I get when I hear the opening riffs of the original.

If Johnny had captured that same emotion then I would like it as much. Unfortunately, to me, he didn't. So, for me, here, the original is best.

NIN's defienlty better...Trent just puts that epic feel into it!

And if you want to know, Sevendust also covered this for their new live acoustic CD which is good too
