This is it boys, they're gonna do it! Sony's gonna do it! Brace Yourselves!

    IT BEGINS.

EDIT: Looks like the tagline for the new console is gonna be "See the Future". Pretty cool.

Completely unrelated, but as we know it wll probably be called PS4, theres been lots of rumors flying around that the Xbox 720 will be called 'Xbox Dust'.

Sounds like a shit name if I ever heard one, hope this isn't true.

You did not just say that. No, NO, NOOOOOOO.

I will not start this argument in a thread about Playstation. TO THE XBOX THREAD! :kappa:

But i'll give Sony credit for the PSVita, thats really good.

The PS4 is rumored to have a touchpad on the controller (not touchscreen, think Ouya controller) and the ability to record 15-min of gameplay footage without affecting performance of the game. The sources that state this are pretty reputable as far as gaming news goes.

Why not something more reasonable like 60 minutes? What am I going to get out of 15 minutes? One minute of gameplay? (Curse you NBA 2K13.)

What it seems like it's saying is that the console records regardless, even if you don't press record, for 15 minutes while not affecting the gameplay. I'm sure there will be the option to record longer times.

I'm excited for the new systems. Definitely going to consider the PS4.

The PS4 (or PS Orbis, as it has been rumored) excites me with its vague-ness. I can only hope that more of the games released for it are Move-compatible, because otherwise what's the point of having Move? I want to use the Sharpshooter peripheral, dammit. Also, Kinect-like voice actions would not go amiss.
And while we're wishing, let's hope they update the UI somehow. The XMB is great and all but it's always been so slow for me (damn those loading icons!); I would really like to see the PS4 be more smartphone-like, for lack of a better comparison. As in, wouldn't it be great to exit a game to watch Netflix without quitting out, then switch right back to your game or to another app without quitting Netflix?
Also, more apps. Make the PS4 more of a living room media device that just so happens to be excellent at playing games. They already have a lot of the major services on the PS3, but they could do with more. Just some of my thoughts.

The controller is reported to be removing (I think) the Start and select buttons in replace for a share button and a touchpad. I take it that means you press the share button when you're ready to record, whilst the game is in session. All you have to do is to press it after you actually get into the gameplay and not record the menus.

Also 15 is a perfect length for let's plays, they shouldn't be too large and you can watch them in parts.

From all I've read the PS4 is supposed to be a more social device than the PS3, focusing on sharing and entertainment rather than trying to have the very best graphics and power. (Though PS4's GPU is reported to actually be more powerful than the NextBox) So considering that I think there's a good chance you'll get what you're hoping for. In terms of 3rd Party games I think the systems will be pretty evenly matched up but for 1st party games Sony will have the edge. At least I that's what I assume.

    We'll see soon I think.

As an anti social, nay, a recluse lol, a more social system is kind of a turn off. I have absolutely no need for a fucking share button. The thought is sickening. Also not big on the idea of a touch pad. I know they're trying to innovate something that could already be at its peak. I don't the PS/Xbox basic controller style system is going too much farther.

I think the release of it will be like just like how it was for ps3 and xbox 360. They will sells lots of it, but Sony's sales won't skyrocket until a huge game comes out (CoD, or some Playstation exclusive) Then, the rest of the sales will be after they shut down the internet service for the ps3

Can they do that? I don't think thats how the PSN works. I could be wrong. Never even thought about it.

What I meant to say was the individual game servers. Like how most of the playstation 2 games that had online can't be accessed anymore. Or like what happened with the original xbox live.

I'm pretty sure Sony has the ability to update the PSN without shutting it down for a new version. It would be console suicide if they did.

Also it would put the nail in the coffin of Vita, anyway, I almost guarantee they are not going to do that.

Online, and technology has advanced quite a bit since the first xbox.

It seems like in the past Sony has pushed for longer console lives, as the PS2 still sold quite a bit after the PS3 came out. I'm sure once the Orbis is out they'll still move a lot of PS3 units once it drops price. No need to think about shutting down the PSN in any case, any way.

I'm not at all bothered by the thought of a share button or a touchpad. If I don't want to share gameplay videos then I just won't use that function (though I'd be interested in trying it, at the very least). If the touchpad replaces Start and Select input then I'm sure that won't faze me either.

Of course I'd love to have more power in the PS4, but when I look at PC gaming versus console gaming right now, it's not that big of a bridge to gap. Sure, I'd love games to run faster, smoother, fewer loading screens if possible. But it doesn't seem to me like the PS3 and 360 need to push the boundaries too much. If anyone wants that then they can certainly get a high-powered gaming PC in any case.
I just want the PS4 as a whole to work better and be more functional. I'm a little "eh" on the social aspect, though the idea of Skyping on my big screen seems kinda cool, maybe give the PS Eye some use for once. XD

And of course Sony will be aggressive in the 1st-party market. I expect to see Jak 4, Uncharted 4, and Killzone 4 at PS4 launch. :kappa: A fournocopia, if you will.

Jesus Christ, a social system would be absolutely fucking terrible. I'm sure we'll soon be looking for reasons to see someone in the outside world.
