Well, I figured a dedicated thread for them would be in order. So, to recap, Ire Works is due to be released on November the 13th/leak in full any day now and it's going to be amazing. It's just a shame Chris Pennie isn't in the band any more but I guess their loss is Coheed and Cambria's gain. Songs released so far (ie only the ones that are available for streaming wherever): All songs (myspace)
I definitely agree that Miss Machine was better. Ire Works seems to be a mix of both MM and Calculating Infinity from what I've heard. This has been the album I've been anticipating the most all year, so I hope they don't disappoint (I'm sure they won't ). -EDIT- Amazon has posted (very short) samples of every Ire Works track here.
Oh yeah, I forgot to post this earlier even though I've known of it for a week or two. Greg when asked, by Rock Sound, why people should attend one of the dates on their current tour:
That's just tragic. Not too surprising though, considering how much they've been through as a band. I guess Chris Pennie was leaving a sinking ship, for lack of a better description.
They kept a lid on it longer than I expected. Maybe I'll search for it later... the anticipation has reached a fever pitch. In other Dillinger-esque news, via The PRP: More of a straight-ahead rock band from what I've heard. Nice to see Chris doesn't take his balding too seriously.
I think, at best, they're an acquired taste for most people. Which would explain the lack of enthusiasm in every DEP related thread on here (besides Dean and myself). -EDIT- Another update via the PRP:
I've never been a huge fan, but I must say I'm really getting into them at the moment. The Horse Hunter is pretty awesome.
I think they're a really interesting band, but I find them a little too intense and all over the place to listen to for a long time. But they'd probably grow on me if I listened to them more often.
The band has posted the entire album in streaming audio on their MySpace page. Listen here. I don't have the time to listen to it atm, but I can't wait.
What a great album. Usually I'm not into this kind of music but for some reason, I'm really digging it.
Decibel Magazine has a great cover-story on Dillinger that has some great insight on all of the bands inner-turmoil over the past few years, including Chris Pennie leaving the band (they let Ben and Chris give their side of the split). It's a great read you can find here. They also have a great review of Ire Works posted. Nice to see some journalists who aren't so hung up up Calculating Infinity era DEP.
I was going to compare their career to Faith No More's but they don't seem to have actually hated each other at any point. Jeff Tuttle's top 10 horror movies http://heavymetalmusic.biz/2007/10/...-dillinger-escape-plans-top-10-horror-movies/
Jeff has great taste in horror films, though I admit I've never seen his #10 pick Broken. I now award him 20 "cool points."
I don't think I've listened to much Dillinger. I'll have to check out some of their music. Any recommendations, besides their new CD?
To begin with I'd say Miss Machine. It's a good mix of more straightforward melodic songs, some electronic songs and the insanely technical mathcore type stuff they were doing previously. Irony Is A Dead Scene with Mike Patton is interesting, and there's a song on there called Pig Latin which is, in my opinion, one of the best they've ever recorded. Then, if you enjoy the more chaotic songs from those two you'd love Calculating Infinity. Their EPs previous to that are more traditional hardcore for the most part.
