What do you guys all think of The Decemberists, specifically their new album, The Crane Wife? I personally think it's brilliant, probably their best work aside Picaresque and The Tain. If you haven't heard them before, check them out. It's hard to describe them, but they're pretty unique. Kind of "indie" I guess, though they're not on an indie label now. Idk. Ask someone else for genres. They're cool though. I think I'm going to see them in Columbus in November. I can't wait.
When we began talking about our projects in English (choosing a musical artist and describing how America's culture has affected their music and vice versa), my professor spoke about how he'd never heard a band as unique as The Decemberists. It was quite funny, because I was the only one in the class who knew who he was talking about. The best part is that I've known about them for years, and he only recently got into them, so I had to school him on various things (not that I knew all that much, mind you). I think my favorite album is Picaresque followed by The Crane Wife, but I can only listen to them for sporadic moments of time before I begin to lose interest. They're a brilliant band and their music is absolutely incredible, but I lose interest in music really fast unless it's engaging to the point where I'm wanting to sing along to every song and whatnot. Other than that I enjoy listening to them occasionally.
