Cool song, Midnight. But in no possible universe it's just half as good as the worst Bon Iver song, conservatively speaking. And to be perfectly honest with you, I'm very amused about the "Kid A reference-growls" which interestingly seem to appear everytime a band puts out something "out of the box", in contrast to what they've done in the past. IMO You always have to remember where you're coming from. For a so called band like Linkin Park ATS maybe was THEIR personal Kid A, but you also can't call it a revolution when you're starting to eat roast potatoes instead of boiled potatos. Same thing counts for Coldplay.
Let's not beat around the bush here, though: Linkin Park are definitely a band. And hyperbole will fade.

Ahhh, you beat me to it! It's nice to have the actual lyrics. I didn't expect that third line though.
Same. This is pretty much the only song I've been listening to since it came out yesterday. So looking forward to the full album.
My interpretation: "darkness" being figuratively about problems or being in a "dark place" in life, and "leave a light on" being that last grasp of hope.
This is sort of how I see it. How I see it, this song is about the realization that your relationship with someone is coming to an end. Before the darkness (current situation), before the dawn (end), leave a light on (last grasp of hope, even though you know it will end). In the swirling (build up of negative emotion) before the storm (inevitable confrontation that ends the relationship).
I hope this was like a transition track between two actual songs, or maybe an album opener at most. I do believe the single called Magic coming out soon will be a proper single.
Apparently it's been confirmed that Magic will be released Monday! http://www.alt987fm.com/onair/trey-...-new-single-will-be-released-monday-12109548/
Awesome, can't wait! I'm really interested to see what Magic's sound will be, if it's going to be along the lines of Midnight, or be a different kind of style in general (which I highly doubt).
Coldplay releasing a second music video soon makes me wonder if they're doing a "visual album", similar to what Beyonce did with her self-titled. If that's what they're doing, that's so freaking awesome, I love the music video for Midnight.
The earliest ''Magic'' rumours said the video would be released in May. And I still don't fully fully believe it, although it's most likely gonna happen. I just wanna hear it from the band. EDIT: Well, fuck me, apparently Chris confirmed it to some fans today.
After listening to "Midnight", only god knows what "Magic" will sound like! I do remember the band tweeting a pic of Jonny recording with a guitar, "playing something magical", so unless the band are taking a post-rock approach, we'll be hearing some guitar from Jonny for sure!
Listening to Midnight for the first time made me wonder if the new album was going to go Post-Rock. I would totally be down with that if that's the case!
Midnight is awesome! When I heard it the first time, my first thought was that this is what I want Linkin Park to sound like... It reminds me of A Thousand Suns. Also, I'm not that big of a Coldplay fan, enjoyed some of their hits and listened to Mylo Xyloto when it came out, but if this song is an intication of their new album, or at least the mentality behind the songs, I will have to check it out!
