That's what I meant that they "annihilated" their fan base. Not "this fan base" but the fan base that put them on the map. The ones that made them the "entity" that they are. But I am not so worried.. I am came to the conclusion that the reason this song was lack luster in the lyrics was probably to make it easier for the contest. It hadn't hit me till earlier. The complexity of the track itself does show we have good to look forward to in this new album :).

I would actually say the opposite.

    Edit:

I actually find that some people who are big fans of Linkin Park are rejecting this song, and the usual haters who have nothing to say about Linkin Park rather than all their songs sound the same, same 4 chords blah blah, are actually feeling this song and will be checking the album out.

Yes. However, I'm just pointing out that it really isn't being taken that badly by the public at all.

ExistentialTechie, a member of this forum earlier requested the song in her local rock radio station and has been denied... twice.

Within a circle of friends, and loyal fans. The song has been taken with luv, as per the hardcore LP fan from back in the day (1st gen, 2nd gen fans) they absolutely despise the techno parts / repetitive lyrics. What Xero21 said was true to some degree, problem is that it's very hard to justify "who" exactly is shitting on the song, as the LP fan base is very HUGE. The mods here enjoy it and they are around my time (2nd gen) and they like it. I personally like it to some extent because I am open to change but I'd much prefer they wouldn't stray away; I am sure that exact sentiment is being shared with others around the globe.

Of course we will know the final verdict once the album drops.

I'd say it's mostly the casual fans of rock music who are hating the most. Obviously people will hate, but there's no reason to completely shun their opinion because they don't like my favorite band.

I'm a 1st generation fan I suppose (been a fan since HT), and I think the song is decent. And I'm not gonna let some casual radio listeners change my opinion of the song, clearly, but I don't think I've ever seen a Linkin Park song gather this kind of response from the general public. Even MTM. I think LP/Warner could/should have picked a different song for the lead single.

I just hate some of the comments in youtube, idiots that don't know anything in music.. Pisses me off too much. I mean look a that Synth solo, they could never do something like that. The song is very complete and rich in sounds. I just don't understand those people.

Boy has this thing grown on me. The same lyrics throughout the song make you pay attention to the instrumental build up. I love the experimentish feel to it as well. And the ending of this is to die for, similar to Little Things and even Papercut. It's what makes the song great. In the last 30 or so seconds in the song where Chester and Mike are singing "God bless us everyone...", I actually start to believe that they never said that line earlier in the song. I'm hearing it for the first time. I'm not sure how LP was able to accomplish this. But they did. A Thousand Suns should be mind blowing to say the least. I cannot tell you how anxious I am to hear how they incorporate "Out of control screaming" and rapping in songs similar to The Catalyst.

P.S. How did I get VIP status? I'll tell you my secret.

I've been meaning to ask you this.

What is your sig from? It literally confuses me every time I see it. It's so mysterious! WHY is the Cookie Monster being shown on TLC, which is clearly not a kid's network? Why are there real people in the room with him? Why has he been presented with a plate full of cookies, and who gave them to him? Is it his birthday? What is going on?

Plus, I love his happy face.

/my thoughts every time I see your sig.

My signature is from an episode of Cake Boss. They were making a giant cake for the anniversary of Sesame Street. Cookie Monster is Buddy's (the owner of the cake shop) favorite Sesame Street character, so he made him his own personal giant cookie cake. The mystery has been revealed!

I love your sig because it's like I can picture what happens next. The CM goes all crazy and shit and dives in the giant cookie and some how doing it in a manner where everyone is going to flee. Like he gets more powerful with every bite he gets. And BTW it's priceless when you break LPA news and it says "Via Cookie Monster" on the homepage lol///WAYY off topic

Let it. People hate good things before they realize how good they are. This style will require adjustments from people, and honestly I think the music encourages (but doesn't require) "working" to think about the song and people just hate that.

People don't like songs without metaphor or depth, they like it shallow just like themselves. If nothing else this just means that the LP fanbase can appreciate something deeper.
