THE best album of 2012? (ONE Album) As the year comes to a close, I ask the people of the LPA - what do you think is THE best album of 2012? I'm not talking about a top 10 list, or a bests of 2012, retrospectives, recounts, honorable mentions or anything else. No draws or equal top or the top 34 equally-as-good best albums of 2012. Just pick ONE album that you truly think is the best and greatest album to be released in the year MMXII. Talk a little bit about it, include an image of the album artwork and even talk about your favourite song on the album! Convince us that we should all listen to your choice! I want to see what the people of the LPA think! My choice for the best album this year is - Imagine Dragons - Night Visions There have been many amazing albums this year, but this one tops them all. Night Visions is a masterpiece. From the hypnotic beat of "It's Time" to the gushing electronic craftmanship behind "Underdog" and "Radioactive", this album from start to finish is amazing and unbelievable. Released on September 4 and led by singles "It's Time" and "Radioactive" this monster of an album is unique. Unique in a way that nearly every minute of this 45 minute adventure is like a brand new sound. Every track is worth a listen. The production work, by Alex Da Kid (Interscope's very own Rick Rubin), is absolutely monsterous and generally loud. When the song echoes vibrantly throughout the recording like it does in Night Visions, you know the production was well handled. The music itself is something I haven't heard of since Coldplay's X&Y days. The formula of Electronic + (Mid tempo music + Loud production) - Raw sound = x hasn't been touched by anybody besides Coldplay, Linkin Park and even Pink Floyd and Arcade Fire to some degree. Imagine Dragons were on to something with Continued Silence, the EP they had released earlier in February, which foresaw what Night Visions would bring us. This formula which made albums that would produce mixed reviews, was bravely picked up by Imagine Dragons, and they pulled it off. It's a great mixture of electronica, arena rock, alternative, intentionally choppy mixing, great production and some pretty kickass effects. My favorite track off the album is the haunting "Bleeding Out". Amongst a constantly looping guitar chord, Dan Reynolds sings a beautiful ballad on the backdrop of very good starry sound effects before singing with a great urgency against an amazing mess of electronic sounds during the verses. As the choruses come together, everything in the song comes together to form a straight melody, before absolutely collapsing again at the end of the choruses. Noise ruins a song. But this wasn't noise. It was perfectly orchestrated noise that was tamed to the beat of the song, and its sounds awfully belligerent and very memorable. I've seen alot of people on this forum constantly mentioning this album and giving it the praise it deserves. This is my giant thumbs up to you guys. You guys definitely know good music. If you haven't listened to this album or even heard of Imagine Dragons at all, give this album a try you'll be instantly hooked in for a straight 45 minutes. So that's my pick. What are your choices? And don't be afraid to put Night Visions just because I picked it. Go ahead, make my day! THIS IS A THREAD FOR THE BEST ALBUM. ONE ALBUM. THAT THREAD IS FOR A LIST OF ALBUMS.
Night Visions is amazing. I think one of the best is The xx - Coexist. My favourite is Example - The Evolution Of Man, even though it pretty damn far from the best.
Hey, I just met you And this is crazy But there's a thread for this So post there maybe? On a more serious note, though, Night Visions is definately up there with my favorite albums of the year. It's not my favorite one though. It's either Koi No Yokan (Deftones) or Coexist (The XX) for me. Reseda Beach (Styles of Beyond) is also one of my favorite albums of this year. Picking one is fool's work though, since there's so different and I like them all equally for what they are
Calling it a tie between... Koi No Yokan by Deftones "Swerve City" "Romantic Dreams" "Leathers" "Poltergeist" "Entombed" "Graphic Nature" "Tempest" "Gauze" "Rosemary" "Goon Squad" "What Happened to You?" Personal Favorites: "What Happened to You?" "Graphic Nature" "Tempest" and Living Things by Linkin Park "Lost in the Echo" "In My Remains" "Burn It Down" "Lies Greed Misery" "I'll Be Gone" "Castle of Glass" "Victimized" "Roads Untraveled" "Skin to Bone" "Until It Breaks" "Tinfoil" "Powerless" Personal Favorites: "Until It Breaks" "Lost in the Echo" "Powerless"
Sorry, but as Decay already pointed out, we pretty much already have a thread for this, where you can post any amount (from 1 to whatever) of your favorite albums from this year.
