They should've spelled it Pheonix. EDIT: On a more related note, love that Dave Grohl is still sticking around for the D. Also, Val Kilmer.
Fuck yeah. I wish Jack would take his singing approach more seriously. His voice is damn good. I still listen to Wonderboy now and then. It's the first song I heard from them and it knocked me off my feet when I was like 14. Brings back memories.
So, since the album can be listened to, I just have to ask those that have. Is it just me or are the last 3-4 songs pretty weak compared to the first half of the album?
Is it just me then? Darn. lol I think its just They Fucked Our Asses that bothers me to any large extent. It feels like a great beginning to a song rather then a full song. Same with To Be The Best although a bit more mild on that one.
I used to like Tenacious D a lot. Jack Black was tolerable and the music was good. Their first album's a comedy classic, in my opinion. Then, Jack decided he wanted to become an actor, which overinflated his ego. He thinks he's an amazing actor, but he's no better than Chris Farley, who I think is awful and who I think Jack wants to be like. I think a lot of that has hurt their music, which is sort of touched on in "The Ballad of Hollywood Jack and the Rage Kage," but it's almost as if they don't think it's serious. But it did: it hurt the music a lot. I can't find one redeeming quality about this album other than Dave Grohl's drumming, and he's not even an official member of the band. In fact, "The Ballad..." is a blatant attempt to recreate "Wonderboy," which shouldn't have even been attempted. I hate most of the lyrics (I think they're all extremely stupid, which says nothing of their first album, where the lyrics were stupid on purpose). This album takes itself way too seriously, I think, and it's just... bad. *shrug*
Yeah, really don't like most of this CD. A couple songs are decent but it doesn't touch their other two albums.
