So, we come back again Same place where we were back then Same mistakes we made and the same games we played But nothing compares to what I did for them And I came a long way down Still didn't make sense when I hit the ground So somewhere new, we stand up and begin Same place where we've always been From the rooftops to the bus stops Through all of the tunnels and all of the gunshots And we're still pressed by the all of the worst bests And it doesn't make sense even though we feel it in our chests So now, do we know how to calm down? Let it all sink in until it reaches below the ground? Sink down to the core of our hearts Where only we know that we tried so hard? Shows how much we had known Only to figure it all out when we hit the stone Well, we stand here abandoned Our will shoved, pushed and branded Stand here alone with our eyes bloodshot After all of the gunshots, still managed to stand it And though I know the times are getting tough And I know what it's like to never get enough Hold on to whatever you've got Because what you have is what they do not
I don't know what this poem is about, but to me it sounds like it's about someone who grew up in a shitty neighborhood, surrounded by bad influences and circumstances. That person got into the wrong kinds of activitys, but whilist doing that, found something that all the other in the occupation did not have. Be it love, or dignity. Anyway that's how I interpreted it. Good Job !
Well, actually, it's not quite about what you're saying, but I can see how it's interpreted like that. The poem is very symbolic, of course, in a sense that's very personal to me. So I wouldn't expect other readers to quite understand unless I explained to them. Oh, and thanks. I'm glad you like it.
