Alright, so I'm about ot have a spaz attack... I logged onto my laptop this morning to find that I had default settings and a little bubble in the right hand bottom corner kindly informed me that I had been "logged on to a Temporary Profile!" (as if this was SUPERCOOLANDAWESOME). Then it went on to tell me that everything I do on said SUPERAWESOMETEMPPROFILE will be deleted and erased when I log off. Also, it told me that I'm not allowed to access my files on this profile and that I should "try logging back in later" or "contact your administrator". ...I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR. Anyway... I log off, log back on. Same deal. I reboot, same things. I have no idea what to do. The internet tells me that this is a common problem with Windows 7 and that logging off and logging back on should "do the trick". The internet lies... Help? Please? I'll bake you cookies... ALSO: The answer "get a mac" although hysterical, isn't what I'm looking for. lol
First of all: Clearly states that you will lose everything. Secondly, try turning the pc on with safe mode.
Is this like a Temporary User Profile? In all seriousness, try booting in safe mode. I've seen this a few times on other Windows OSs and if merely rebooting doesn't do the trick, safe mode should. I'm also searching the interwebz, and some of the solutions these people are coming up with would make me cry.
I managed to fix it on my own, yay! Just in case anyone else ever has this problem, here's how I did it: I created a new user account "Michelle Shinoda" (haha yeah, I know...), and then logged out of the corrupt user profile and onto Michelle Shinoda. From the new user profile, I opened System Restore and restored to the lastest restore point (yesterday afternoon). I rebooted, and my original profile ("Amanda Marie") was functioning normally again! I then went in and deleted the user profile for "Michelle Shinoda". YAY.
