Okay I hate teenies as much as everyone does but I also accept that I was once one too so I gotta be honest here, this thread appauled me: Clicky

Gone just like that. No second chance, just banned in two posts. Now look, I'm not gonna bitch about it but quite frankly I think that while we should be trying to eradicate teenie crap that newbies post, you guys shouldn't be just banning people just like that.

There should be some kind of process of education to guide people away from saying the kind of crap that was said in that thread. Yes the rules clearly state teenie comments like saying the members of LP are hot etc. aren't welcome here, but perhaps newbies just need reminding of the rules and not just out and out banning. After all, the last time I checked there was a warning system.

Nah, once you're to the point where you "love" a band member, there's no turning back.

Personally, the way I see that, that person may not have meant love as an attraction. Perhaps, just as admiration for his talent. I think you guys need to wait to see if the person is actually a teenie. She barely got a chance.

I think this is way too harsh. I'm sorry, but it's getting to the point where you're not even giving people a chance anymore. I mean, you could just tell them not to say it out on here and they won't. Simple as that. Banning them is just...I don't know. It seems cruel. I don't mean any offense to those who made the rules and to those who enforce them. However, I think it's a bit harsh. And just as an opinion, I think the rules should be slightly reformed so that we don't just say, "Hello...good-bye!".

I agree with Luke. I think we need to start putting the warning system more into play and stop banning people right on the spot.

I agree 100%. That IS harsh. And as Louis said, when I read it "yes i do love Rob" I interpreted it more as admiration for his musical ability. I mean, maybe she meant it in a teenie way, but she had no chance. I love what the Staff here at the LPA does to keep us free of annoying teenies, but that WAS a bit harsh. I would try to give people a second chance, at least a reminder.

Especially when they're from India, and their English isn't perfect.

Can't except foreigners to break out "Oh, I admire Rob's drumming ability and am an avid fan of his".

    Let them live and learn.

I remember trying the leniency approach when I was an admin.

    That didn't really work.

But this situation seems kinda different. She posted two times. They were too harsh and too quick to ban, in my opinion. I mean, if she posted a bunch of times typing like a teenie and saying "zomfgzorz i lovezorz chazziie!!" then yeah, ban them, please. But what she said, about loving Rob, can be interpreted differently, and not just in a teenie way.

Perhaps we jumped the gun. The staff will discuss this. Thank you for bringing this up. :)

Oh I'm not saying what happened was right or anything like that.

I'm just saying, a leniency approach was tried before and we just ended up banning even MORE people.

As far as the warning/infraction system goes, it runs on points, with 3 points being a ban. An infraction that falls under the "no teenies" rule is 3 points, so it's an instant ban.

That particular topic/member was kind of discussed between staff members for a couple days before any action was taken, so it came down to a judgement call...*waits for one of the more senior staff members to give a better response*

New members are presented with the Rules page before they make their first post. Whether or not they actually choose to read them or just hit Accept is beyond our control, but they're shown the rules which state teenie behavior will be an instant ban, so there's really no excuse for it

Not being a bitch or trying to undermine your authority, but you banned her based on an assumption. She could have meant that she loves Rob for his music ability, hell, I love every single one of the members, and that's for their talent. I just think you guys should have given her a reminder or something before immediatley banning her. Just my 2 cents.

Don't you think an instant ban is a little harsh though? This board wont become anything like the Underground or LPMB if people are taught to learn from what they've done wrong. I'm living proof that people can improve. When I first joined LPA when I was 13 i tiped a lil bit liek tis but now the only way that'd ever happen again is if someone hit me in the head with a shovel. You never know if these people can become decent intelligent members on the board if you don't give them a chance.

Also as Cale pointed out, this person came from India, they might not have understood the rules completely. That doesn't mean to say that they're a bad person with no respect for the rules now does it?

I don't see the harm in giving cases like this a second chance. If they blow their second chance then yeah they probably deserve to be banned but banning someone after they've made two posts isn't exactly fair in my view.

But at the end of the day you guys make the decisions.

I've really got no energy, so I'm going to make this short.

The staff always discusses potential teenie issues before any action is taken (unless it is blatantly obvious). A lot of us (myself included) argued against any immediate action and let her post more. And if you were wondering, yes, we're still running on a warning system. Teenie-bopper behavior is a three-point warning. The fact this individual was also willing to post-whore (no thanks to the individual who encouraged it) didn't help their case in my opinion. It's been my experience that if you filter out as much of that type of behavior as you can as early as possible, the less likely you'll be faced with a larger issue in the future. It doesn't matter if English is your first or fifth language, that doesn't mean you can't present yourself properly. Language is no excuse; otherwise majority of my family would be walking in circles asking where the bathroom was in their native tongue. Finally, she's obviously got posting experience if she's been at the LPMB prior to the LPA. So what's the excuse? By the way, what does a "second chance" look like? Should we color-code our teenie behavior? Code-yellow teenie? Code-red teenie?

I understand it seems harsh, but the rule has been there since the start. We've just got a different set of rules that require users to use a little more of their noggin while posting. We tried being lenient and that didn't work out, so really... who wants to develop a teenie-rating based on the colors in a Skittles bag? Anyone?

Hey im new to this forum too and after reading this thread I dont think ill bother staying around or involving myself in conversation.
Im by no means a 'teenie'. Im 24 and have been an avid fan of LP since Hybrid Theory however am disgusted that someone would be banned from a public forum like this for what she said. Come on? This is a band forum, not the CIA.
The girl is from India and obviously English is not her first language. Give her a break!
Anyway, I enjoyed reading the forum posts over the last few days, but its time to say goodbye...I wouldnt want to say anything that might get me "banned".

Please don't use this one single case to represent the staff here. There's a lot more to the story than what it seems.

As Keaton said, unless blatantly obvious, or a case of it being a 3rd warning, all bans are discussed by the staff before anything happens (and believe me, more often than not, members are spared and given a second and sometimes even 3rd chance, so don't get the wrong impression of us). With this particular poster in question, there were many posts that never saw the light of day (as you know, with new members, their posts need to be approved by us first) that added nothing to the community and could be considered post whoring. And that's all we ask of posts, is that they add something to the community (and if you've seen some of the stuff in Random Thoughts, you'd know we have pretty low standards for that ). This post was the one that finally crossed the line so to speak. Had it been her first post, there would've most definitely been just a warning.

Please guys, don't assume anything about us and the way we moderate the site based just on what you see. There is a ton of stuff going on behind the scenes.

^That's true, without giving any names I can think of several members who we could and probably should have banned at some point but were given another chance after some deliberation.

If we were to take all the useless posts by new members that we don't approve and make a Trash forum out of them for you all to see, you'd probably realize just how much crap there is that has no place here.

Well I didn't even know what the forums meant "with teenie" but know I'm warned *looks behind and under the table*
