Recently, I've been planning on 're-doing' my room.
I have a cheap, four-year-old, stereo in my room, which really doesn't work anymore, and I'm planning on getting rid of it.

I own an iPod. So, I got to thinking of how I could play my iPod's music over external speakers. I found many devices specifically made for this, but they are generally over-priced and expensive. So, I tried plugging my iPod into our computer's speakers. This gave me an idea.

Now, I've seen computer speakers that have Surround Sound, etc. But, if I was to shell out the extra cash for those, I'd like to know if some of the 5.1 Surround Sound recordings that I have (With Teeth, The Downward Spiral, Ashes of the Wake, etc.) would be able to go onto my iPod, and play with the Surround mix.

But, seeing as how I currently don't have access to Surround Speakers, I have no way to test this theory. So, I go to the LPA for help. Will this idea of mine work, and if so, how would I go about getting the Surround Mixes on to my iPod, etc.?

Won't work. MP3s aren't capable of surround. They are only capable of having left and right channels, no center or rears, and I dont believe there are any other audio formats out there either that support surround that play on the iPod

    That's right.

But there are certain products, created by Apple, which you can hook your iPod up to so that the song playing is projected on two speakers.

But, my dad bought a tape (like ones you put in a tape recorder and ones you put in a care) which has a wire sticking out of it (like the wire on a set of headphones or earphones). You put it into the head-phone slot and insert the tape side into the car. The song playing will be played on all speakers.

You could try that method with a stereo system, even though I, nor my dad, has ever made such an attempt. Good luck.

I've seen one of those speakers in Future Shop a few times.

I have one of those tape things actually. Very useful. :)

Theres a difference between playing on all speakers and surround sound.

And using a cassete adapter is the dumbest idea because you'll lose so much sound quality.

Not necessarily a dumb idea. But it's just what my dad uses in his car.

Well, damn. If anyone can find or knows of a way that I can do this, please feel free to post it. I'd love to know. Very much so.
