HOLY BALLZ LKJHDFLKNLJHDFKN! Now finally something i can be officially uberexcited about with for my PS3
I was looking at the screens earlier. My background is now Kazuya uppercutting Ryu. This should be really interesting. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
I was initially excited but now I'm thinking... how the hell is this supposed to work? Street Fighter and Tekken are two very different fighting games. I mean, combo execution alone is enough to ask, "WTF?" It's very exciting to see this crossover happening, because this is like a dream come true for me, but I'm not exactly confident about how it'll play out. Still, Akuma vs. Heihachi? Hell, Ken vs. Paul in a battle of red gi and blond hair? Yes please! And maybe we'll finally see who is the better overweight fighter, Bob or Rufus?
Still not too fond of the aesthetics of the SF 4 graphics presentation. But.. I digress, this is a dream come true. It's almost as surreal as SSJ 3 Broly and Vegeta included in the recent DBZ games.
Actually, there will be two games: Street Fighter X Tekken (developed by the Street Fighter IV team) and Tekken X Street Fighter (developed by the Tekken 6 team). Naturally, the former will play like SF, and the latter will play more like Tekken. There are no screens or footage of Tekken X Street Fighter, though. If done right, this crossover could be nuts.
Awesome doesn't describe this news. Street Fighter and Tekken were the first games that I got into back when I was like 5 and although I don't play video games much anymore (the reason being my PS3 is broken and I can't be assed to get it fixed lol) I will certainly be getting this along with Marvel vs. Capcom 3 when it comes out.
Among hardcore fighting fans, there's a debate going about of how viable these games are actually going to be. For SFxT, Tekken characters would all be similar to Zangief, Abel, and Cammy in that they are all melee. They have no projectiles and thus no way to space or zone effectively against characters like Ken, Ryu, Guile, Chun-Li, basically 3/4 of the SF cast. It'd be difficult to competitively balance the Tekken characters without completely changing movesets (with a chance of disappointing the Namco fanbase). For TxSF, there lies a similar problem. Projectile characters potentially lose what make them fun characters: the projectiles. What becomes a great spacing tool can be sidestepped very easily. Further, there are certain characters in SF that aren't input-based characters but rather charge, which is a virtual unknown in Tekken. It'll be curious to see how SF characters shift over. We've already seen what happens when you attempt to bring SF over to the 3D realm (Street Fighter EX anyone?). Namco and Capcom better have a better method of balancing these characters without messing with the integrity of who they are, otherwise I don't see TxSF or SFxT getting much play outside of casual gaming.
I don't know how this game is going to work, especially for Namco's version, but it should be fun anyway. Also, this game won't be coming out for about 2 years, the production team says. What we see now is probably going to be really different in the final product. Maybe for Capcom's version, they won't even use the SF4 graphics.
