Loudwire report that Jim Root and Stone Sour have parted ways. Jim will continue to play in Slipknot.

This was an interaction made between a fan and Jim Root via his instagram account on Saturday:

Stone Sour confirmed the news on their official website a few hours later:

They may as well quit now, they're not going to find a better suited guitarist and they've already lost their original drummer and bassist. What the fuck is going on with Corey? How can he work with Jim in Slipknot but agree to terminate him from Stone Sour? None of this makes sense to me.

Yeah it must be really awkward in Slipknot now... Too bad, I really liked Jim in Stone Sour!

Wat. I'm not even a fan of these two bands, I only know a couple of songs from each, but wat.

I'm not sure I really like whats happening with Slipknot right now. Which I say because I'm sure this will affect SK. I mean Stone Sour is Corey's band. You know he was at least partially responsible, if not fully so. I just get the feeling a third member might drop out.

This really sucks. I love Stone Sour. Also, seeing as how Paul's dead, Joey's gone and now there may be possible tension between Corey and Jim, I'm not so optimistic for a Slipknot release.

We'll get a release. Just might see some real tension. Maybe another member drop out.

There might be major tensions in the two bands right now, but hey, remember the last time a band fronted by Corey Taylor had major tensions within?

Slipknot have always had in-band tension.

Well Corey said the new stuff sounds like Iowa and Vol. 3 had a baby. Which is basically the best news you could possibly get. And EB is kind of right. There is always tension.

Plus, either Corey or Jim Root an interview said it could potentially be a double album! :awesome:

That would pretty crazy, if they can pull it off.

After such a long wait, a double album would be quite welcome!

I'm actually more worried about Stone Sour than Slipknot. I feel Stone Sour really raised the bar with HOGAB and I'd hate to see Jim's departure set the band back just when they were hitting their stride.

This. So much this. After Stone Sour's debut album, I've never taken them that seriously. But The House of Gold and Bones is fucking awesome! I'm afraid losing Jim Root will hinder their future material.

Maybe Jim refused to do an acoustic album.

The amount of firing going on with Roadrunner lately is crazy, especially revolving around these bands. Joey was fired from Slipknot, Jim from Stone Sour, and the vocalist for Scar the Martyr (Joey's sideproject) just got fired. And all of them haven't said anything officially other then "I'm not with the band anymore", and the bands haven't said anything but "We are saddened to part ways with: X"... I feel that this is probably all up to RR, to be honest... It's a little scary.
