This may seem like a ridiculous and daunting task, but I've been inspired to download some Rosetta Stone and try and learn French and Spanish, mostly for the sake of songwriting. I might give up in a month, but hey, I'd like to try. The thing is education cost money, and I can't waste time and $ at college, so i'll probably just nab some software and try and listen to music to help me learn, because application is the best thing. I'm not into like heavy metal stuff, I'd prefer easy to sing and audible lyrics like the following: I took Spanish for 2 years in high school, I can sing this one pretty easily. Don't know jack about french, but I'd love to be able to write a song as sexy sounding as this. Any tips on songs or learning a language decently are appreciated!
A few ideas: Louise Attaque - J'temmène au vent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= Serge Gainsbourg - Le poinçonneur des Lilas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= Lorie - Je serai: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= As you can see we have many different artists lol so if you can give more precise styles I'll try do to some reasearch. The advice I can give you to learn a language by listening to music is to watch videos with original subtitles so that you can learn to separate words in phrases. PS: subtitles is sous-titres in French. ^^
Thanks for the tips! I like m83 a lot, but their stuff is all in English as far as I know. I like the kind of folky songs like the first one you posted, and the Carla Bruni song i posted. It just seems really calm and enjoyable. Thanks to the other people that posted I like that Ratatouille song.
doesn't Serge's daughter, Charlotte, do songs in French? I know some songs are in English, but if I remember right, her last album had some other languages on it. She's been compared to her dad in a lot of ways, and I love her voice. For some reason, I'm really interested to hear some mexican punk music. That would be glorious in all sorts of ways.
Yep her first album was mostly French. Charlotte Gainsbourg: Parce que j'en ai besoin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSisOy3CQHQ Similar groups to Louise Attaque would be: Luke, Matmatah, Indochine, Noir Désir, Dyonisos, ... You can find other ones here: http://www.lastfm.fr/music/Louise+Attaque/+similar?page=1
Thankyou guys so much for the feedback! This is one of those 'seemed like a great idea' things, and I still want to do it, but that whole life thing is hittin me with my first real job.
