We have a junk e-mail problem at Skidmore now because of some mistake in the Bursar (financing) department. There was some virus that caused e-mails from that department to go out to everyone who owes Skidmore money. Now people are e-mailing everyone trying to be taken off the list of what they think is a club (because they don't READ) and are creating one huge junk e-mail web. Shows you how smart people are here... But maybe that's because we're #1 in Reefer Madness according to Princeton Review
I know that this doesn't always work, because unsubscribing yourself usually just tells the company that your email address is active, but blocking the addresses doesnt work too great because they tend now to mail from addresses like "[email protected] then 2.website.com" You can block the @website.com, but after awhile if you have hotmail, you can only block around 300 addresses. Now to my point. I used to get a fair bit of spam, but what I did was go into the emails and unsubscribe myself. Now I dont get any spam.
On my previous Hotmail account, I ran out of space for adress blocking . But now my public e-mail is on Hotmail and private on my ISP, so I get spawn in Hotmail but people who really do need to talk to me e-mail me on my ISP mail.
I'm using hotmail and I get about 5 spams a day. Most of them are offering me a male genital enlargement (I'm a girl...) or a dental surgery...how interesting... :argh:
