Yeah, as long as we're taking away a woman's right to do what they want with their own body, why don't we also take away their right to vote, hold public office and work http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/02/23/politics/main1339393.shtml
its not too hard to use a condom - so i dont see why things like this are such a big deal. if people played safe then this wouldnt even be an issue. the troubble with this is people get caught up in a moment and dont think of the end result... but this is a little harsh i guess
Condoms break. Or, what about rape? Maybe doctors determined the baby would be born with some sort of disorder? Or maybe 2 people wanted to have a baby and then something came up during the pregnancy and they couldn't financially support it.
Exactly This sounds like Massachusetts with the gay rights situation. As soon as we're the first state to legalize it, our asshole governor moves to ban it. The goddamn idiot was thinking of going for president.
I've made mention of this in another thread on the same subject, but it's not exactly the way you're putting it, Todd. I mean, the embryo inside of a woman isn't exactly a part of the mother. Rather, it's its own seperate being that just so has to rely on her for nourishment as it grows inside.
Yes but the woman is the figure that produces, whether it is their choice or not, the separate being.
It doesn't exactly make the being her property, now does it? And did you happen to fail sex ed or something? Child making is a group effort, Glenn. (k, that came out really awkward. )
I have sort of a conflicted view on this. Banning abortion is not a good idea. Many women, especially young women, are impregnated and don't want to have their babies. Having abortion banned would probably ruin their life if they had to carry it. But then again, abortion is sort of bad. Who knows if the baby you kill might be the next Einstein? Who knows? I don't know. Weird view. But they shouldn't ban it.
If people sleep around (or something along those lines) and get pregnant they should have to keep it - a valid punishment.
Reminds me of what I said in the 'american girls' thread that cece13 made awhile ago. "Well, if the girl didn't want the child, maybe they shouldn't have whored themselves out in the first place."
The quote applies if the choice is made to have sex, Todd. Come on, even you could have figured that one out.
There's always adoption, and before you mention emotional scarring I would imagine you'd rather have foster parents, albeit decent ones, rather than blood ones who don't give a rat's ass about you.
When abortions were illegal, women would try and do it themselves with coat hangers. Not going into detail, but I think you can figure out how they'd manage it. A lot of them got really bad infections or bled to death in the process. So which would you rather have, the right to a safe and healthy abortion that not everybody agrees with, or safe abortions illegal and people doing them in more dangerous ways? I think losing the baby is better than losing the baby AND the mother.
yup. @Dean: The emotional scarring comes from 9 months of unwanted misery (in some cases) and the fact of giving up your own child.
