I have a friend who worships Slayer's music, so unfortunately I am forced to listen to them. :wth: They are alright, but I would never listen to them as much as my friend does. Their music is too heavy for me.
I like Slayer quite a bit, I love Kerry King's guitar work, but the of their material on record is just of average quality in my eyes. But even though I just see them as average on record, I saw them live last year on their European Unholy alliance tour along side Slipknot, Hatebreed and Mastadon and I have to say, when I saw them preform live they blew my mind, they were amazing.
This is what I think...: 1- They are anti Semetic, Satanic and too violent. 2- Metallica and Megadeth are better bands 3- Their albums are very short  But really, I'm not really a fan of them but Kerry King is an awesome guitarist
Slayer just might be the most overrated metal band in existance. Well, right next to Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. I only like two songs by Slayer, and one is a cover of another band. Highly overrated in the metal community. And anyone who thinks Slayer's music is satanic...sigh.
As great as Kerry is, Jeff can whip his ass. And FINALLY, someone posted this thread aside from me. reach: Casey=In metal history, I wouldn't say so. Judas Priest isn't THAT overrated, as for Iron Maiden.....ugh, too correct. Slayer perfectly suits my tastes, but I'll admit that they are overrated. halfass fans take a good band and overhype it.
MegaDeth > Slayer > Every other thrash metal band > Metallica EDIT: @Casey - Correction, Metallica is the most overrated metal band in existance.
I agree, though I like Metallica better than Slayer...but thats just my taste. I love Metallicas Drummer. I really like metal guitarists, and I think Metallica is a bit weak in that area. Slayer beats them as far as guitar, but with everything else Id rather listen to Metallica. Maybe if they combined Metallicas Drummer and Slayers guitarist, they would have the ultimate metal band...
I hardly hear any metal fan I know talking about Metallica. It's always about Slayer is "so fuckin' heavy and dark". I half expect them to say, "SLAYER IS TR00 KVLT".
Lars is a terrible drummer. :wth: Hammet is a decent guitarist, but he can't write his riffs for shit. Hetfield is probably their best bet. King and Hanneman are most renowned for their on-off solos (they're absolutely badass live), but they were in their prime during Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, and Seasons in the Abyss.
I never saw what was so special about Cliff Burton, to be honest. I've listened to "Kill 'Em All", and it sounds so fucking shitty.
thats becase they were 20 year olds with hardly any money. Cliff wrote some awesome songs such as Anesthesia and Orion.
Meh, I like him. I think he was the only good thing about St. Anger, and other than that I enjoy listening to him. As for Slayer, Im not too fond of their vocals.
Wrong Have you ever listened to albums by Iron Maiden right from Iron Maiden(1980) to Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son(1988)?Kindly do so before commenting. Do you want to suggest that bands which don't get a lot of media attention in the US are crap and shitty?Kindly explain
@ you suggesting Iron Maiden don't get alot of coverage in the US. Surely you realize media coverage isn't everything, but even then, they're horribly overrated in the metal community. But you're a big Iron Maiden fan, so there's no point in trying to convince you.
I have heard a lot of songs by them via my neighbor, but I don't really know much about them. I couldn't name all their songs or bandmembers. From what I heard, they're great. It's just that metal isn't my kind of music. I'm more of a hip-hop guy.
