Well, currently me+ my sister have a computer each but we always fight over who uses the 'net. I wanted to set up a network between the two so we can both use the net at the same time. How do I do this?

If there's only 2 computers you want to set up, with one sharing the internet with the other, you will need a 'crossover cable' or 'patch cable'.

They can be purchased at any computing place really, but a standard network cable cannot do this. Please post the speed of the internet, whether or not your modem is ethernet (phone jack) or USB and the operating systems on both computers. :)

Don't worry, after hours of swearing/breaking things over this kind of connection, I can help :D

Its a broadband connection- 1mbps :p the modem connects to the pc through a usb port andto the phoneline box bit using a separator? Both systems are using Windows XP home.

Ok, so the modem connects to the computer via USB and Ethernet. This is good. It works either/or so you can unplug one or the other and still have internet from the plugged in one (assuming you have the USB drivers installed that should have come with your modem/internet package)

Is this correct? Also what are the operating systems (windows xp, nt, 98 etc.. or linux)

Edit. I have to go soon, school's almost over (That's right, Neil the big nerd has no internet at home)

So invest in a crossover cable, it should be about 5-10$ depending on the length you need. It's not as simple as hooking them up though ( :( ) but I'll help you when you have one.

I've got about 3-4 computers in the house. My computer is connected to the router wirelessly. :)

Just gotta watch for dloading, you need to configure the router to forward the ports of the program...

Yeah, but routers cost a pretty penny.

    Crossover cables are cheap.
