I thought that since there was alot of Trivium discussion in this thread that this might interest some people. This is a video taken from a UK show of the Black Crusade on friday: Notice how Corey B. is doing the screaming and how when Matt does the screaming for the bands he goes off of it completely towards the end. This only enhances my theory that Trivium didn't change their vocals because they wanted to but because they had to and instead of coming clean with the truth that Matt simply can't scream anymore they decided to just come out with the crap that they did.
I saw Trivium live earlier this year and Matt was screaming all the songs. He let Corey scream "Ember to Inferno," though, but I'm not sure why. But if he can't scream anymore, he should just come out and say he can't.
I hate to also make this comparison but it happened with M. Shadows. He flat out said that he had vocal surgery and even said that he can't scream anymore. Surely enough, he needs lessons to fix that, but sure. Same also goes for David from Disturbed. Same thing. Like you can tell if you listen to The Sickness and Ten Thousand Fists. You can tell that it's different.
The difference here is that Shadows can still scream, he just chooses not to so he doesn't destroy his vocal chords again. As for Draiman, I'm pretty sure he can't scream the same as he did before simply because of the fact that he makes crazy noises and it's probably really wearing on his vocal chords.
Davey Havok of AFI's screaming also changed a lot after his vocal surgery between Sing the Sorrow and decemberunderground. Luckily all the rest of his singing has gotten even better.
Gotta wonder how long some of these bands are going to go before changing their style, bands like As I Lay Dying, All that Remains, Parkway Drive, etc. I saw As I Lay Dying and ATR about a week ago in concert and I just cant imagine screaming for 30 minutes to an hour like that night after night. How the hell do they do it.
With lessons, you can scream whithout ruining your vocal chords. Melissa Cross put out two DVDs (Zen Of Screaming 1 and 2, respectively) that give warm-ups, tips, tricks, etc., which basically make you use your voice differently when you sing or scream. It's pretty good, and I'd recommend it if you want to get into that.
Youtube - BFMV Scream, Aim, Fire Was ripped from a British radio station, im sure better versions will appear over the next dew days I think this is better then Eye Of The Storm
http://www.myspace.com/bulletformyvalentine Here's a better quality version of it. Also the video is out as well, but i'm not posting it, since it's a fucking Real Media file. Seriously...who the fuck uses that anymore?
What I don't get is that when BFMV played Scream, Aim, Fire at the concert back in January, the verses were screamed.
Well, it is a cool looking cover but it reminds me of something a power metal band would put out lol.
