Billboard have featured an article on Producer Rick Rubin where amongst a number of artists he's working with, delves into the progress on the follow up to Linkin Park's 2010 release "A Thousand Suns". Check out what Rick said below:

"Linkin Park: Rubin says the group has "been in the studio writing" for a follow-up to 2010's "A Thousand Suns," which Rubin also produced. "Typically we'll have a once-a-week meeting to go listen to the songs that they're coming up with and talk about them. For so early in the project, they are much further along than they have been on the last two albums we did. On ('A Thousand Suns') there were still a lot of irons in the fire. We knew, 'OK, we can't do this forever. Let's leave this batch and we'll come back and address it when we start up again."

This confirms that Rick Rubin will be Producer on the next Linkin Park album, which is currently early in production.

    Good.

I'm tired of people blaming Rubin for Linkin Park changing their shit, the man's produced classics.

I was really looking forward for the next album to be produced solo by Mike. Heh, oh well.

Good. Rubin is an artist's producer. Keeps the artistic integrity of the music in mind, and gives the band freedom to go in whatever direction they choose.

I would as well, ever since Chester said in the ATS doc that he was gonna pull out a Rubin saying I've wanted them to expand upon how Rubin is with the guys in the studio.

This very good news. I think LP really enjoy the fact that Rubin gives them the freedom they want yet will still give them advice when they need it or show them different way of doing something without it feeling forced.

Excitement level has gone up another bar.

I don't get why you need an outside opinion when you have 6 members in your group. You have those other guys to keep your music in line.

Sounds like LP is re-visiting some of those ideas that didn't make it into ATS. So, that's probably why the guys are ahead of the game. Won't surprise me if we get a sequel to ATS with even more pop/soft songs.

They need to just start entirely self-producing their albums instead of going a couple of years with the same producer then getting someone new.
