So, I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Windows Vista Home Edition, and for quite a while everything was working just fine. When I told the computer to shut down, it would shut down. If I told it to sleep, it would sleep.

Now, every 4 or 5 times I tell my laptop to go to sleep or shut down, it decides to just restart instead. It's not even a clean restart, it tells me that the computer wasn't shut down properly. This frustrates me and I'm really not sure what's causing this problem. I don't know if it's a virus or if it's a hardware problem.

So, if anyone knows how to fix this, let me know. Others, apparently, have had the same issue with their own Inspiron 1525's, so I don't know if this is just a common problem among this sort of Dell laptop?

    Thanks,
    Louis

I've heard these had to be taken off the shelves here in Australia once, because they kept breaking down and doing the same thing. It's a hardware problem for sure, plus, sigh, it's Vista.
Dell Inspiron + Vista = not so good combination (putting aside my hate for half-finished OS).

Hope I was some help to you :)

Yeah, that is unfortunate. I've heard other people having the same problem and I wanted to see if there was any sort of way to fix it.

I did a few things, just to see if it did anything. My McAfee service that was installed when I got the computer had expired, so I got AVG instead so that the computer would stop being all upset that there isn't any malware protection.

And then I updated my BIOS from version A11 to version A16. So far, the computer hasn't had any problems and I'm wondering if this will do the trick.

Don't remember where it is in Vista, but look for power management and play with those settings
