I grew up in a very small town in Northern California, and it was the kind of place where everyone literally knew everyone else. I moved away from there almost 14 years ago now, but I have kept in touch over the years with people that I have known for my entire life.

Two years ago the younger sister of one of my oldest friends was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. On January 5th, 2008 Courtney passed away. She was 16 years old.

Yesterday, a group of Courtney's friends and her sister honored her memory at the high school we were students at. I love that the town I grew up in is still such a tight knit community. I just wish that it was out of something else that this had to be done.

That's great. Anyone would be lucky to get that kind of remembrance.
