When a box came up asking you to download something, did you click "yes"? If not, you can either 1) Download a Java applet (www.google.com) if you don't have one, or 2) Delete all cookies and temp internet files, go back to the page, and see if the box comes up again.

Also, you may have a pop-up blocker that's blocking the download box from coming up.

The applet we have is called a "jIRC applet", so you can try finding that.

or 3, which is the best out of them all: Download mIRC (http://www.mirc.com)

    Then in a window, just type /server irc.zirc.org and /join #LPA

there are a whole host of other channels too.

It never did have a virus and the place those members got the virus from had to be from somewhere else. It's impossible for any sort of virus to be transmitted through the chat applet because its a static code and someone would have to manually edit the page if they ever wanted to launch an executable from the site.

Since we have no records of that ever happening, it's safe to assume that the chat applet is without a doubt, 100% safe. Besides only one member ever claimed to getting virus alerts in his virus software when viewing the website, it never managed to happen to anyone else.

If you're still worried, follow the instructions to download mIRC from Kat's post.

Or it was just a warning for possibly malicious script from the AV. I get some once in a while even when i try opening Yahoo! chat, so it's not that unusual.

There are no malicious scripts anywhere on the applet.

The only 'script' is the 'security warning' that pop-ups when a file needed to actually work the applet is about to be installed. That's all.

Symantec thinks it's nasty, but there are NO viruses on that applet. I'm not repeating it anymore <_>'

For the last time, there are no viruses or malicious scripts on the jIRC applet. If Symantec or another virus scanning program says it is, then that program is unfamiliar with applets such as jIRC wanting to download their setup files onto your computer in order for it to work. These are mistakes by the virus programs, and the things being downloaded onto your computer are in no way viruses or malicious scripts.

No it's not your computer. People do go in there sometimes it just might not be when you're on. Keep checking back to the chat every once in a while and I'm sure you'll find people in there.

I dont intend to be harsh but please refrain from ever resurrecting a thread this old again. Such posts are against the rules and heavily frowned upon.
