Well, when getting this DVD I expected a really fun show from these guys from the start. And as soon as I popped it in my DVD drive I knew I was right! The RHCP are one of the greatest mainstream rock acts in the last 10-15 years, up there with Nirvana, Metallica, and all the other chart toppers with credibility. They also put on an incredible live show, expressing their passion for the music they play and their overall love for music. Of course, the Chilli Peppers songs always have great grooves in their songs which makes their songs fun to listen to even if John Frusciante is going off on a long guitar solo.

The show is set at Slane Castle in Ireland amongst a crowd of 80 000 crazy Irish! The fans are amazing and roudy all night long for the whole 2 hour set. The opener, the title track from their latest disc, 'By The Way' is a funky song with groovy basslines a la Flea to get the party started. "Scar Tissue" was breathtaking, featuring great singing by Anthony Kleidis and extended guitar soloing by John Frusciante. He puts extra solos in songs which don't even have them. And they are always passionate and tasteful and shows how great a guitarist he is (also with a great stage prescence) as he is sometimes overlooked because of his humble playing. Even though he has created some of the best melodies of all time! At the end of this song, we have a bass solo from Flea, a blur of notes on the top strings/frets showing his acrobatic fingers. His stage prescence is also enormous, jumping all around and headbanging in his skeleton suit!! For me he is the best bassist around today! The bass solo lead into the again funky 'Around the World', and the feel-good song 'Universally Speaking'. Theirs a bit of a guitar bass/duo before 'Parallel Universe', featuring more awesome Frusciante solos. The well-known single 'The Zephyr Song' is done next to the delight of the fans.

The next song, 'Throw Away Your Television', never had much impact on me on 'By The Way' other than the great opening Flea bassline. But here it came to life and the band played this one with so much energy that it ended up being one of the highlights! 'Havana Affair' and 'Otherside' wrapped up the first half of the show.

The next set started with three songs from 'Californication': the bass-slapping "Purple Stains', and the more emotive 'Don't Forget Me' and 'Right on Time'. Next, the hit single 'Can't Stop' was played. This is where the show really picked up. Anthony Kleidis ruled the stage all night dancing when John and Flea and Chad were at it. Next up is my favourite song off 'By the Way', the ending number 'Venice Queen', the ending is performed perfectly live and its one of my favourite riffs! 'Give It Away' was great, but it was the ending that really amazed me! The band left the stage after the modified ending, then Chad came back and did a KILLER drum solo, and then FLEA came on with a TRUMPET and laid down a sweet jazz jam with Chad! It was probably the best part of the DVD! After that more sweetness...Flea gets his bass and does an incredible duet with John Frusciante that segued perfectly into 'Californication'. After that John went to the far right of the stage and sat down at the edge of the stage to play 'Under the Bridge'! To close off this very special show, they played one of my favourite tracks of theirs: 'Power of Equality'.

This is truely a great DVD that all Chilli Peppers fans will love it and I recommend it to anybody who loves groovy music and wants a band thats really entertaining and funny but not sacrificing their talent!
