Got a local band that hasn't made the big time yet? Found a great band from a few years back that everyone's forgotten? This is the place to post 'em, and tell why we should give them a listen! I'll start with a recent discovery of my own--Petrograd. The song that got me hooked was "He Calls it Freedom". I've googled it and searched everywhere I know, but for the life of me I can't find lyrics or much info about the band. If you like punk, early Bad Religion style, this is for you. Fans of chick rock might also find this band interesting, with its mixed vocals. The songs are different, somewhat cynical, and well-written.
If you haven't heard the band Hot Hot Heat, you should definitely check them out. They had one hit over the summer about two years ago called "Bandages." They're working on a new album now, I think it's almost done. They're sort of an indie band, on Sub Pop records. (Same record label as The Postal Service - check them out as well, if you don't know them.) Another really good band is Hot Water Music, I'm not sure if they'd be labeled as obscure or not, but I know a lot of people who haven't heard them, so maybe. There's also this local band from my town called The Lido Venice. The bass player goes to my school - or the school I went to before I started homeschooling again. They're an awesome band, though, I like them. Here's there website - http://www.thelidovenice.com/ Go to the mp3 section. And I'm not sure if they're still together, I know the bass player's other band "Get Loose" is still together, but I'm not sure about The Lido Venice. Okay, I've rambled enough. Have a good day
Bwhaa, after a long search I found some info about Petrograd, it's not much, but here ya go Kate clicky I couldn't find lyrics though. Their site is down.
Unsacred Hearts - old-style punk/rock n' roll. Not exactly melodic, but they won't make your ears bleed either (ahem, Casulaties). I'll do more later.
Death From Above 1979. I would recommend them to fans of BRMC, The White Stripes, Placebo, and more recent Muse. This is their website, apparently. :wth:
Planes Mistaken For Stars Screamoey stuff. Blessed By a Broken Heart Metal/Metalcore InMemory Screamoey, kinda like The Used. Fit To Fail Ska lovin. Ten Second Epic a very good band from Edmonton. Kinda rock/pop/alternative. But a great band live! Official Site: Here Purevolume: Right Here
gyroscope great band from Australia, perth SINGLES Safe Forever Confidence in Confidentiality Take this for Granted Get Down
Scarling - I don't know what to call them, really. I hate to use the label but I guess they're "goth rock" or some such thing. Fronted by the singer of Jack Off Jill. Best Song: Band Aid Covers the Bullet Hole. The HorrorPops - Physcobilly influenced rock n roll, yo! Download songs here.
Cordalene - Kind of like The Beatles meets The White Stripes. It's weird, really weird. But really, really awesome as well. Definitely one of my favorite bands. I found them on the Warped Tour 2003 Compilation. Gotta love $6 compilations. So anyway, if you like The White Stripes, or maybe Weezer, see if you like Cordalene. They're good.
...but not nearly as good as any of the bands you compared them too Meh. She hasn't converted me yet. The Dresden Dolls - Lots of people here know about them, but what the hell...Modernized cabaret from Boston. Billions of times better then whatevers on the radio at the moment (and so called-alternative stations still count as radio). Common Rider (no website, far as I know) - Reggae/ska/punk brought to you by ex-Operation Ivy singer Jesse Michaels. You have to be tolerant of the occassional bad rapping to enjoy (I think it's endearing, personally). Download: What The Heart Looks Like When It's Hot, True Rulers, Classics of Love
...but not nearly as good as any of the bands you compared them too Meh. She hasn't converted me yet. [/b][/quote] I'll get you someday...when I visit, I'll play them nonstop so you'll have to love them or else you'll go crazy. Maxeen - There song "Lead Not Follow" sounds like a cross between Janes Addiction, The Police, and maybe All-Americal Rejects. Heh...that's a weird mix. They're not a bad band, though. I like them.
12 Pointless Days A punk band from Scotland, Their influences are Rancid, Green Day etc Add me on MSN for their songs, You wont be dissapointed
Imbortir is a local band from where I'm from. They're metal. www.imbortir.com I don't know how many people have heard of Trivium, but I think they have some really cool guitar parts. www.trivium.org
Ace Out, a fantastic obscure band from France. I really like their sound. http://www.ace-out.com, dig a little, access the old site, and click on the moving puppets until you get to the audio section, where you can download a part of some of their songs in (LQ) mp3 format. I especially recommend "You Don't Know Me".
eXterio. Local band from around here. The lyrics are in French but the songs kick major ass. Give "450", "Bonhomme 7h" and "Whippet" a try.
