I joined this forum as a junior from high school. I'm now a junior in college. How time flies. (btw for those confused we didn't have K-12 so I never went through Grade 11 & 12, but they finally applied K-12 when I left high school lol)
In 2 days I'm supposed to perform a song acoustically when I've never even tested my voice out around other people. I'm scared shitless at the thought of it. >.> And the goddamn transition between an Am and F chord is crimping whatever style I had left.
Relax your anxiety about the situation. Practice the music til it hurts. Do you know anyone that can give you honest feedback about your singing? It's always better to hear what people think instead of going out there and potentially giving a performance you may not be happy with. This is not an insult to your abilities or talent - I've never heard you as an artist. Just speaking from personal experience. Something I found helpful is to record my voice and listen back to it. You will always sound different in your head compared to what people hear. Good luck, Chris.
I've had my cousin help me because I have a tendency to get airy when under pressure. He said I sounded fine but I'm still rattled to the bone. I've recorded my voice before and it sounds just weird to me.
IDK how I'm just starting to getting into Riverside. I've known about them for years, but their music over the past week or so is finally starting to click with me. I'm so glad to have another Prog band to really get into. It's too bad that I've only started getting into them, after their guitarist died.
Getting back to this: last night was the night and I'm glad I have great friends...because when I forgot the lyrics and literally just said "Oops, I forgot the line", then voice cracked hard trying to hit one of the more difficult notes they overlooked it. It wasn't one of those little quivering cracks either, it was like a full-fledged 12-year old voice crack. After I finished they demanded an encore but I was like "Screw that, I ain't doin' this again, you sing and I'll play my guitar, thanks." So that's what we did and that's how it went. I think I'm going back to my performing hiatus.
Dad just bought me a turntable ! My first one ! I can finally listen to my vinyls ! Now, let's spend lots of buckets in Linkin Park vinyls.
Never had my boss been so rude and insulting in my face. But I feel sorry for him because he actually thinks he *can* demoralize me.
If they wanted to hear more from you, I would've gone with and it and taken that as a compliment. You are too hard on yourself, honestly (and that's coming from me). Did you only sing "Everglow"? I know that note Chris Martin sings before the guitar solo is difficult since it's sustained. It takes a lot of practice to get your muscles used to breathing and holding air. Don't give up, alright?
It wasn't even the part before the solo. That was the one difficult thing I nailed. It was one of the earlier notes in the chorus lmao.
Don't think making music is worth it anymore. Said I wasn't quitting but there is nothing worth pursuing here. BTW not being intense or dramatic about it. Just saying this hobby has caused way too much bullshit for the 10 or so years I've been doing it.
