Both fair points. That's why I think, IF they would do it, it shouldn't be one of those two forms. It should involve what they've learned since then, new soundscapes, new singing techniques (e.g. Mike singing, Brad singing?), new instrumentation (e.g. simple guitars instead of power chords, more electronic melody elements like keyboard samples, more acoustic instruments and so on). Just how it would sound today. Keeping the core ideas of the original songs and blending these with their contemporary sound. Yes, they don't really have one contemporary sound, but you know what I mean: Everything what they've learned. That made me think of another idea: Doing a musical "journey" through their discography: What would respectively three of HT's songs sound like in in MtM's style, in ATS's style, in LT's style and in THP's style? I think this would also make for a nice challenge for the band. They'd have to grasp the core essence of each record and repack it into a song from HT. I think this could be exiting. One would call that a reinterpretation, I think, but it shouldn't involve other people like in Reanimation, it should capture their own sound. But since we already have a remix album with Reanimation, I doubt they'll every do another one. Maybe in the far, faaar, distant future.
Then, they'd just be completely new songs, and the band are working on completely new songs right now. I could even bet that they're still writing angst-ridden lyrics as well.
Yeah, probably. Either way, I would still like if they'd do such a "journey" through their discography in the future. Because you can prove me wrong, as they'll still not have made something like that?
They've got new songs that feel like their old stuff, primarily Lost in the Echo, and I would much rather have stuff like that than a remake of an old song.
Wow, I didn't think my comment on a remaster or remake as a distant possibility would generate this much discussion! I'm also glad to see other ideas surfacing about how LP could re-interpret or even re-do older songs using techniques they have learned in the past 15 years. @JonasTheRoman: Your idea about LP taking a "journey" through their discography is really cool, but it just might be too difficult to carry out, given the depth and diversity of a discography like LP's. If this were another band that did not experiment as much and had a more consistent sound between their albums, it would likely be more feasible. Even so, the possibilities are many for a band like LP, so we will always be guessing what's next
Yeah, true. And even on each album, they featured different styles. Though each album still had one distinctive feel. Maybe it would also be easier to "just" reintroduce the older sounds in new songs, instead of repacking it into old ones. Maybe also more exciting, like iPodwithnomusic brought up. Even if they don't do something like that, I think LP will still surprise us with one special project or another. I am looking forward to what is yet to come. Even more so when keeping in mind that they've still plenty of new musical territories to explore!
This was already happened with A Thousand Suns. Mike even mentioned that A Thousand Suns was the new Hybrid Theory with a twist when it came out 5 years ago. Hybrid Theory & Meteora are the only records that had been recognized majority of casual listeners. Even my friends said that the records they only knew were Hybrid Theory, Meteora & the Transformers 2 single, New Divide. If they would go that route again, revisit that sound and experiment it more. Make it like a Hybrid Theory sound in 2016.
Reading through you guys's discussion make me feel like I'm watching 'Tommorrowland'.....Or 'Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs'.....Or when Velma say something "science" in 'Scooby-Doo'...Or the argument between the two scientists at 'Pacific Rim'...
That reminds me of the first time I heard "Points of Authority". Days of listening to that song commenced. Still one of my favorites.
I still don't find PoA that interesting. It just feels repetitive and boring. #hangme Cure for the Itch though... <3
I do POA find kinda boring, but the last ~1/3 of the song is really good. I can't stand "Cure for the Itch", it's just too wierd. MR HAAAAAAHHHHHNNNNNN
