Raine Maida (frontman of Our Lady Peace) just released his first solo album last month and I finally got the time to listen to it last night. The album was recorded using mostly acoustic instruments and is largely influenced by Raine's love of spoken word poetry (he describes this project as his poems put to music). What's notable is that he's performed spoken word a lot over the last few years, including alongside people like Saul Williams (and even gives him a shoutout in a line from "One Second Chance"). The album is a socially-conscious, rhetorical evaluation of the issues with society. It's very moody and has it's emotional high points and low points, with some highly insightful lyrics all throughout. All in all the album is solid from start to finish and has found itself in my top 3 albums of the year. Check it out at his MySpace page.
I'm a decently big OLP fan, so I'll have to check this out. Raine has a great voice. PS: Do you think anyone outside of Canada will even know who OLP are?
I know who they are and like their music a lot I also like hockey and free healthcare so maybe I'm a bad example
Well, if you don't support the war in Iraq you might as well be a gay Muslim terrorist as far as some Republicans seem to be concerned .
I'm going to curb this before it goes into a political debate. I think OLP is somewhat well-known in the US, I'm pretty sure they've had a couple of hits on the Billboard charts.
I'm sure all of us Americans have heard either "One Man Army" or "Superman's Dead" or definitely "Somewhere Out There" since that was their big hit here in the US.
