If I ripped files from an audio CD as FLAC and then burned them onto a blank CD, then, I'd have an exact copy of the first CD in terms of audio quality, right?
Yeah. FLAC is a lossless codec, which means it's exactly the same as what's on the disk, which you probably already know.
Right, another quick question -- what can I use to burn FLAC's to an audio CD? Because Nero can't read them for some reason ...
I dont know, but I know that if your burning them onto a Audio CD, be sure it has enough space on it and that the reader can put out sufficient power to play them. (Along with codec to play them) Also, make sure that your headphone equipment is way above par Just Fyi.
Well, I'm just hoping to spread a total of 888 MB [unevenly] over two 700 MB CD's, I think, logistically, I should be fine. I think an actual codec might make Nero able to read and burn FLAC's, actually ... if I could find one that'd be compatible or whatever.
Keep songs seperate. Dont cut them in half And not sure a bout Nero, do you have any other options to use?
Use EAC. Exact Audio Copy. You'll have to read a burning tutorial though. Don't have any links but it shouldn't be too hard to find.
You can always download FLAC Frontend (it's freeware), rip the FLAC files, load them into FLAC Frontend and decode them into .wav's, and burn those. Just about any burning software/media player can burn .wav files, just make sure you delete them after you're done with them because they'll just be taking up unnecessary space on your hard drive. I don't really see a point in using FLAC files for burning CDs anyway, .wav's are more program-friendly. FLACs are really just good for archiving lossless audio on your computer without taking up as much space as a .wav file.
http://www.xs.vc/eac/ That's the *perfect* guide to ripping CDs. Feel free to PM me a log and I'll check it over for you. If you burn them back with a non-compliant cue-sheet, then yes, it's an exact copy. http://www.burrrn.net/?page_id=4 (if you don't want to use EAC to burn) Replace '.wav' with '.flac' in the cuesheet, then drop the .cue onto burrrn. Also, you should go into Settings > ReplayGain > uncheck Dither (if you're burning from a lossless source, like FLAC).
Well, I gave up on my endeavour and just converted the FLAC's into WMA's, but, one day, I might give EAC a go.
Just so you know, your CD isn't *exact* if you don't burn with a .cue as the cue contains the gap information.
