Oh God no... Why couldn't they leave the name of Queen and start with a new name? Why mess with something that was near perfect?
Exactly. Although it would probably do better for the cause since more people would recognize the name Queen than a new name with members of Queen... Bad for the music, good for the cause?
In reality, no matter how good this is it doesn't change how the initial music sounded. It may seem a bit annoying using the name, but let's face it- it really doesn't hurt anyone, and it helps them get their music out there. A name is really meaningless.
For all the respect which I have for Queen, I just don't like their music at all. I'll admit that they're never going to be the same Queen as they were when Freddie Mercury was their singer, so I think that it's rather inane to release a brand-new song under the name Queen. It seems sort of insulting to Freddie, even if they're doing it for a good cause.
This is an outrage. Queen died the very second Freddy Mercury died and it should remain that way. Same goes for bands like Alice In Chains etc. The bands just aren't the same when the key member of the band departs or passes away.
well i just don't compare it to Freddy and i can listen to it without saying "If it Doesn't live up to queen. I won't listen to it" just don't hold standards and its easier to like.
This is a fucking outrage. Good cause or not, Queen is Freddie Mercury. Without him its nothing but a cheap soundalike. I thought, going into this thread they were releasing an old unreleased demo or something. To hear they actually made a new song without Freddy is shocking to say the least.
When they toured together they billed it as "Queen + Paul Rogers", which didn't seem as blasphemous to me. I'm kind of on the fence about this, since Brian May was just as integral to Queen as Freddy was, but this still doesn't seem right. Same applies to Alice and Chains.
To be fair, it's "Queen + Paul Rodgers". I'm also of the mind that Brian May is every bit as of important as Freddie Mercury was to Queen. Hey, atleast it's not like GnR with only one founding member left. It's the original line-up, sans the most iconic frontman of the 70s and 80s. No doubt this isn't a popular choice, but they had to move on. It's just too bad that it was Paul Rodgers instead of Constantine Maroulis on lead vocals. His track on that Queen tribute album released a few years ago was immense. As was the Breaking Benjamin track, but that's a mute point. edited because my first paragraph made no sense to me
