Great song in my opinion, it's sort of a different song for Linkin Park - and it's a great demo. If you haven't heard in it....YouTube it up.
It's amazing how many sounds Linkin Park can come up with. For instance, Not Alone had a lot of synths and scratching elements, and was very light on guitars. Across The Line was a much harder traditional rock song, with heavy guitar riffs and fast drum beats. And now we have Pretend To Be, an alternative rock song with a very catchy guitar piece and some beautiful harmonies. It's amazing what these guys can accomplish, add that on top of the nu-metal sound they mastered earlier on, and the new techno/electronic sound they're brewing up with A Thousand Suns, and it's obvious they can cover a wide range of sounds. As far as the song itself goes, I really enjoy it. I wouldn't say it's one of my favorites overall, but as far as their recent demos are concerned, it's pretty high up there. Definitely like it more than Blackbirds and Not Alone, but it's probably even with Across The Line, maybe a little below. A solid 8/10.
It's catchy. And it's nice to hear a song purely instrument based, without any beats or keyboards for a change.
Between all of the Demos that LP has released, this sounds the most "demoish" to me, except for Step Up, maybe. But I still really like it. The guitar riff is really catchy. Definitely could have been a great song if they worked on it more. But they can do even better, which ATS will showcase.
Boring. Straight up boring. Nothing appealing about this song at all. Thank God it's just a demo and didn't go farther then that
$60 for one song? LOL Catchy song, though it's nothing mind blowing. I like it. It'll probably be on LPU10.
The poppiest thing I have ever heard from LP. So catchy. I've had it on repeat all morning, so, by the end of today, I won't be able to stand it. ;D I know those "ohh"'s are gonna become annoying if I hear them too much.
Agreed I kinda feel this, to be honest, this might be my favorite out of Blackbirds, Across The Line, Not Alone, and possibly even New Divide. Its got this odd vibe to it, and I love it.
Power rankings of those songs listed: 1. Across the Line: This needs to be the new "My December" next tour. AKA the one random Underground song that they play at times. 2. Blackbirds: This would be a top 10 LP song if it lasted longer. Even though it's over 3 minutes, it flies by. It's under 3 minutes if you don't count the intro (which I find annoying) 3. Pretend to Be and New Divide: Can't decide which is better. PtB maybe but since it's a demo I have it tied with New Divide. 5. Not Alone: It's still a good song, but I've heard much better slow songs (i.e. Shadow of the Day)
I think that chorus vox, where Chester sings "... not the one that you pretend - this" is a scratch track of some sort that they just didn't bother to replace.
This is definitely up there in post-MTM tracks as far as I'm concerned. Lyric wise, it kind of reminds me of In Pieces, and is a tad corny (but only slightly), while the guitars kind of remind me of a mixture of No Roads Left with Bleed It Out. I think its cool that Phoenix has his own solo in the song. I see why it wasn't put on ATS, since in a way, Pretend To Be is kinda something they did already, but kinda different as well, while with ATS, they wanted to do something drastically different. Now its time to wait to see what is going to be on the LPUX CD. And no, A Decade Underground doesnt count as being the LPUX CD, since Adam confirmed that the LPUX tracks are different from what A Decade Underground is. My rankings of the non album songs released since MTM 1. Across The Line 2. Blackbirds 3. Pretend To Be 4. Lockjaw 5. Not Alone 6. New Divide NOTE: Im not including We Made It, since it was a collaboration; She Couldn't, since it wasn't "officially" released by the band itself; No Roads Left, because it was on the Tour Edition on MTM.
