I was sitting down this morning try to get my new big heater to work, and then I plugged in my old little faster heater in the same powerboard, then because it has a surge protector on it, it detected a power surge and shut everything off. So I couldn't start up again on that powerboard, so I had to switch powerboards to the one behind the couch which had the computer, wireless network modem and telephone plugged in it (cordless phone btw) and replaced it with the tv, heater, HD set top box and various consoles. I've tried to get the original powerboard that I had blown to work in the different powerpoint behind the couch and it still isn't working, so I've had to put the wireless network modem into the single plug, and the laptop's cord is going across the room to reach the powerboard for the heater etc. Now, can anyone tell me, before my other half comes home and goes off at me, what is wrong with the original powerboard if it's already got a power surge protector on it and do I have to get another powerboard?
Surge protectors can only protect against the surge once. They take the hit from the surge and crap out. Small price to pay for your computer and all the other expensive stuff to not be damaged by the surge.
