Actually The Netherlands is one of my dream destinations, what can you recommend that I visit if I go to Amsterdam one day? I´ll probably do a connection flight Prague-Amsterdam-Lisbon, but one that will allow me to spend almost a full day in Amsterdam, from like 9 am to 8pm, so what kind of places could I visit there?
First of all, I would go in summer. Amsterdam is just sooo much better when the weather is nice. It not only looks nicer, but lots of people just sit and hang out alongside the canals and there are a lot of little boats going through the them, which is fun to watch. I love the relaxed vibe in the summer. When I go to Amsterdam I usually don't do much of the touristy stuff, but I do love to take a canal tour (best way to see the city) and just having a drink on a terrace alongside one of the canals, watching the boats go by. One of the touristy things that I did do is The National Maritime Museum museum which has this big VOC ship that you can visit ( http://www.tinker.nl/media/imagick/2149_1200_800_crop.jpg ), which is pretty cool. And of course there's the Rijksmuseum which has paintings of Rembrandt and Van Gogh, the Rembrandt House Museum and the Anne Frank House. If you go to the Anne Frank house, buy your tickets online and well in advance! The line there is the longest I have ever seen anywhere and even online tickets are usually sold out a few weeks in advance (right now the first available tickets are August 10th!). Oh and if you're into beer there's the Heineken Experience, which is a tour and tasting in the Heineken factory. If you want a nice view of the city go to the Amsterdam Skylounge (Hilton), which is next to the central train station. And if you don't feel like walking much, trams are the way to go.
Thanks a lot Hope I can do as many things as possible in a one-day connection flight. I had heard of Rijksmuseum, but do I need to pay the entrance? A boat trip would be nice as well, as would a nice beer. Do you know about how it works if I want to do a tour at Ajax stadium?
Yeah, Rijksmuseum is pretty expensive actually. €17,50 I believe. If you want to go to the Ajax stadium you should get a train from Amsterdam Central station to Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena, which is about 15 minutes. The stadium is right outside of that station. You can also take a direct train from Schiphol airport. For train info you should check this site http://www.ns.nl/en/journeyplanner/#/. You can book a tour here http://www.amsterdamarena.nl/tours/tour/arena-stadium-tour.htm. Site is in English so it shouldn't be too hard I've never actually been inside the Arena, so I can't give you any info on that.
I´m just planning now, because if I go, it will probably be in September, so I hope there´s still nice weather there at that time. The visit to the Amsterdam Arena is not too expensive actually, I thought it would be 30 €. Also the boat should be payed as well, right?
Yeah, a boat ride will cost you around € 15 - 20,00 (Amsterdam is pretty expensive). If you have anymore questions feel free to DM me. Sorry for derailing the thread guys
Yep, I live in Schiedam, 10 minutes outside of Rotterdam. Yeah, Blijdorp is cool! Love the playground lol.
This one turned out alright, not a fan of all the crazy filters that she put on the photo but that's me.
