In case you haven't been keeping up with the hubbub, Valve has had an ARG running to promote Portal 2. The main thing that's going on right now is everyone on Steam is playing a group of games called The Potato Sack, which are some awesome indie games, in order to give GLaDoS enough computing power to release Portal 2 early. One of these games is Audiosurf, which had a patch implemented that added 'Portal Mode' and an awesome song. This thread will be about Portal 2 in general, but here's the song and the Portal visuals for Audiosurf:
God, I want this game right effin now! I already got my friend hyped and ready to buy the game so we can play coop.
Bought it on PS3 so I can also play it on my PC. Can't wait. After the disappointment that was Crysis 2 for the PC, imo, Portal is the only thing I'm really looking forward to on my PC.
Too much last minute college work to devote time to this game at launch. I'll play it a few weeks from now. Concur that Valve can do no wrong (other than delaying HL2E3).
The ARG that they're doing for Portal 2 extends to HL2E3. We've found references to Black Mesa and a picture of GMan.
*SPOILER (kind of)* And there's a Borealis reference in the Portal 2 itself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVbqOwh2s3M *END SPOILER*
i think all the games had some portal related thing done to them. killing floor was one of the potato sack games i believe and received a new map as a result called aperture. it had a room you had to unweld into with a golden potato.
This is indeed true. The number of total potatoes became a timer for which the games completion progress was sped up. Each time a game was completed, the timer for release would drop. It was pretty fun, actually. I'm about 2 1/2 hours into Portal 2 (had to sleep due to work, and then had to go to work) and it's ridiculously fun.
tbh i hated that map because people would just weld themselves in that room and do nothing while the rest of us killed everything. im gonna wait for a year or two to past before i get portal 2. its too expensive.
$40 is too expensive? Not to sound all uppity, but damn that must suck. Anyways, I finished the game on Tuesday. I'm going to use an overused word here: EPIC. Honestly. The best game I've played this year and one of the best games I've ever played period. This is what a game SHOULD be.
Honestly. I'll be perfectly frank and say that I overhyped this game a lot in my head. A. LOT. I was very ready to have the game not meet my unreasonably high expectations. Portal 2 vaulted over it like most of my jokes going over your head. Get it. If I could buy everyone a copy of Portal 2 to play, I'd do it.
its not worth 40. i compare it to the fact that orange box was 30 and you get several games out of it. portal isnt something thats worth the cost of several games. ill wait til it gets down in a year or so.
It's an 8 hour single-player game with a co-op mode. The Orange Box was a deal, I agree, but that kind of price isn't indicative of what games are priced nowadays either. You get games that are priced at $40 all the time now. And how can you say it's not worth it when you haven't played it yet? Considering a movie is $10 to watch in the theatre, $40 for a game that's at minimum 8 hours of entertainment for the single-player alone, it's very much worth $40. Then again, that's just me. $40 isn't a whole lotta money to begin with on my budget so, there's that.
yeah i stopped watching movies ever since the price went to 10 from 6. and i dont buy new games now.. except for indie ones that are usually around 5. i think the prices are too much for the amount of play. i paid 15 for kf.. but i put over 500 hours into that game. when it comes to single player games and linear coop games.. i just dont see 40 being enough. <-- thats totally worded retarded but you get my saying.
Does that mean if a game was 400 hours of playtime and half of it is running in a hallway, it's worth it? I'd rather have a game that knows when to end and is paced perfectly than a long-ass game that should've been over waaay before. And the experience of Portal 2 is worth it though by far. But I digress.
the 400 hours of playtime is cause im having fun. so i dont know why youre asking me that. i wouldnt put so many hours if it wasnt.
Finished single-player. AWESOME. Now it's time for some coop and listening to developers' commentaries.
