So I got my beloved PS3 the day after Christmas, the $500 one that plays DVDs, PS2 games, CDs, PS1 games, ect. WELL, I've a whole lot of PS2 games and a memory card for those games, and most of them being completed or close to it. Sooo, does the PS3 have a memory card slot for the PS2 and PS1? T_T If there is, I can't find it.
You need a PS2/PS1 memory card adapter so you can transfer your data to the PS3 HDD. It should cost about fifteen or twenty dollars. Unfortunately if your memory card(s) are not Sony-brand cards, they might not be recognized. I personally think this was a bad move on Sony's part simply because once you move your files over, you'll never use it again unless you copy someone else's memory card.
I thought this adapter was for to save PS2/PS1 games on your PS3 in general. I didn't realize there was an internal memory card system on the PS3. Because it doesn't matter for me, my PS2 wiped out my memory card long time ago.
Ah, okay. <_< Yeah, I was wondering, because I lost the book that came with it (probably on my bedroom floor somewhere) and the memory cards wouldn't fix in any of the slots. ...Wait, Sony brand? o-o I know the PS1 card is Pelican Accessories, but the PS2 card is the 16MB Max Memory one; I think that came with my PS2 though. Oh well, the PS2 card is what I care about, the only PS1 games I play any more is mostly the three Spyro games. PS3 isn't too bad actually, though I got it because of all the PS2 games I have. ...Xbox 360 uses HD-DVD format... I wonder if it could be hacked to play PS2 games.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that. The 360 uses a standard dvd drive and dual layer discs for the games. The HD-DVD drive is just an addon. Games are programmed to work, interact and perform on a certain hardware, so you'll never be able to play ps2 games on a 360.
Games are custom tailored to each console. The 360 and PS3 and of course Wii are all different, so the games are custom tailored for each system. I was also saying the the 360's HD-DVD drive is just an addon for movies, there are no games that use it, it just has a regular dvd drive.
Huh, weird, okay. I got that. AND, do you have ANY idea why a PS3 would play some PS2 games and not others? T_T; Mine's being a bitch about that right now.
Because the ps3 doesn't directly play them. There's software running on the ps3 called an 'emulator' that behaves like a ps2. They haven't got it right so it only works with certain games. Same goes for the 360 and original xbox games.
What if you installed linux on a ps3, or an X-box then installed the PCSX2 emulator. Would that allow you to play more games, on 360 or PS3?
T_T Okay, I understand that for one of my games, Legend of Spyro: A New Begining, but why the hell would it actually PLAY the the second one in that series (LoS: The Eternal Night), but when it gets to the title screen, you have maybe half a second to see the title screen, then it just dissappears so you have to backround for the title screen? I wonder that too now.
Not that simple. First of all it's hard to run unsigned code on a console. Currently the ps3 hasn't been hacked, therefore you can't run anything on it ... yet. Not to mention someone has to go about custom tailoring a Linux distribution for the ps3 specifically because it has unique hardware. Currently it's possible to run a small Linux distribution on the 360, I've seen a proof of concept video, but I'm not sure how well it runs, or if it even works other than running a couple of lines of code. It would also be completely different than running an emulator on a computer because I doubt you'd be getting the emulator to work with the inputs the console is getting from the controller. It IS possible, but it will never happen. So in short... no
