It isn't so good if your first album sold 16 million worldwide, though...
Actually it is good because not many bands have been successful with Sophomore albums the Best example is Papa Roach- Infest sold 11 million worldwide whereas lovehatetragedy sold only 3 million. But I feel that many people must have bought the album thinking "Oh LP Hybrid Theory was excellent lemme see how this album is" and then they must have been very dissapointed to hear the album.
Isn't that what we're supposed to think? Besides, I heard Meteora first, and then HT, and I liked HT better.
Isn't that what we're supposed to think? Besides, I heard Meteora first, and then HT, and I liked HT better.
What I mean by that is I'd like to see How many people actually liked the album from 00.00 to 36.41 min. and not just bought it.That will give you a relative idea of how good an album is
Nine million is great. Most alums only go platimun/one million tops. HT might have sold more but Meteora still sold a decent amount of records.
I'm sure half of the people on this board just conform to the general feeling that meteora is shit for the sake of it. Meteora is by no means a bad album, and there is no problem or shame in selling 9 million copies of an album, even if it's predecessor sold 16 million. There are numerous reasons a follow up album can sell less than a debut album, and "It's shit" is probably a minor one. Downloading and burning became a lot more common in 2002-2003, therefore more people probably ripped the album rather than buying it. Another reason, and probably the most logical one is that when Hybrid Theory was released, Linkin Park were the amazing new band that nobody had heared of, with a fresh sound, and amazing talent. Everybody wanted LP to be their back pocket band. By the time 3 years had rolled passed, everybody knew LP due to their huge success with singles like "In The End" etc, and their sound wasn't as fresh anymore, and the simplicity behind it is that more & more people were becoming tired of the over-play and constant commotion over LP, therefore resulting in fewer fans because Lp was now seen as mainstream and could no longer be that back pocket band everybody had anticipated. So before pointing out the obvious that "Hybrid Theory" is better than "Meteora", think about the other reasons why it didn't sell as much, as opposed to "Meteora is shit" all the time.
