I dont know how many of you are fans of musicals, but I think everyone should go see the movie for Phantom of the Opera. It's only in select theaters right now, and if you live near one of these cities, I strongly suggest you see it. The acting is superb and the music is unlike anything I've ever heard. I believe next month it opens nationwide. I was just completely blown away by this movie. It does not dissappoint. Anyone who knows the show itself will not be dissappointed either. They used every song from the original show, mostly all the same lines, but take what the show had and expand it 10 times. Joel Schumacher should get an Oscar for this.
I remember I wanted to see the play version when it came here when I was really young, but my parents thought I was joking and never took me... But if this comes to a theatre here, I wanna' see it...
The only part that disappoints me is that they added a sword-fighting scene and that was never in the original play. Ah well. I still want to see it.
To those who want to see it but can't right now, I thought Id give a little teaser. This is the song "The Point of No Return." This scene takes place just before the infamous "Chandelier Crash" scene, which is included in this mp3. This is just a taste of how intense this movie really is. The Point of No Return - Chandelier Crash Enjoy.
Wow...their voices are beautiful...when they sung together I got blown away....the violins are amazing! The end is scary... I saw the play and loved it, according to everyone here the movie is good...can't wait to see it. How long is the movie? Thank you :hugz:
I have to say i am a big fan of The Phantom Of The Opera. A few years back i saw 'The Phantom Of The Opera On Ice' and that was mind blowing. I'm also a big fan of ice skating so all the skating and the fantastic music was just amazing. I also saw an actualy theatre version that wasn't on ice about a year or two back i think. Not as good as the ice show but still enjoyable. Thanks for this news Nate
Nate, have you ever seen it live? Because if you haven't, and you thought the movie was that spectacular..wait until you see the real thing. That's one of the things I'm worried about in this movie. The whole point of it is to experience it live. The boat scene won't look nearly as amazing if its done by film.
Well I havent seen it live, but my friend that I took with me has seen it live and even she was amazed by this, so Im guessing this stuck to the original. And Razan, the movie is about 2 1/2 hours long. Its as long as the actual show itself.
I've seen the stage version twice--once here in the Twin Cities, and a couple years ago on Broadway--and I love it. A good friend of mine is a big fan of the show as well, so I think we'll go see it together sometime.
I've caught the premiere of the film last week and its just...WOW. i have a soft spot for the song 'All I ask of You'. but if you ask me Moulin Rouge is still the best.
Thanks Nate! How is Moulin Rouge better...I found it kinda...cheap...chick fick? Oh well, everyone has their own opinions
No way is Moulin Rouge better. All the music for Phantom is original, while the Moulin Rouge music is covers of other artists' work. (I'm still seething about the awful cover of Roxanne.) Also, the role of Satine in Moulin Rouge seemed rather flat to me, while Christine Daae had a little more personality. Finally, Moulin Rouge seemed a bit saccharine to me.
I wanna see it. In 5th grade they took our whole class to see the play, and me and my friend love it so we desperately want to see this movie.
Lucky, we don't have feild trips. I think Moulin Rouge is more of a chick flick with good music, don't like it...

[/b][/quote] actually if you ask me MR is more than just a chick flick. i didnt like it at first as well..until we were forced to analyse the film during scriptwriting class and poof! my whole class loved the film from then onwards, including me.
This movie is amazing. I grew up listening to the soundtrack (my mom was obsessed with it), and I finally got to see visuals that went along with it... Amazing movie, amazing performances and amazing music... I loved this movie!
