I'm sure everyone is aware that when Papercut is played live, Mike says "Something inside is not right today," instead of the studio version "Something in here's not right today." What I'm concerned with is why? I wonder if it was like after the studio recording, and Mike was like, "Oh crap, inside works so much better than in here." And, for the sake of conversation, which is better, "inside" or "in here's"?
I think I can answer your question. I too, have noticed what you are talking about. He does do a minor change in lyrics in Papercut when performing live, and in fact, on the Collision Course album. Now the reason, and take into consideration that I am, as well, a song-writer and I am in a band at the moment. You see, when a writer first writes a final draft for a set of lyrics, he thinks they are fine and he tends to keep it that way. But overtime, he might find a way to make it sound better, even after recording the song originally. That's probably what happened with Mike. Chester does it too, but not necessarily with lyrics. He probably just changes the way he sings the lyrics. I have noticed it in some of his performances. Anyway, I hope this answers your question. I think "Something inside's not right today" is better because it rhymes much better. It flows more.
they're doin that all the time through the touring cycle of each record. i could list you some "changes" in their lyrics if i would listen carefully. they do those things on stage sometimes. in runaway for example chester sings "my words were never true" instead of "these words were never true". or during "by myself", mike often use to say "i make the right turns" instead of "right moves". or near the shoutpart during "a place for my head", chester sometimes says "you try to take the best of, go away", and sometimes he prefers "you will never get the best of me, go away". there are so much more to list, but i'm too tired for this. i think songs get more interesting with these little "corrections".
I personally think "Something inside's not right today" is better to use because it links up with the song. The song is about feelings and emotions that we experiance from the inside so it fits perfectly.
i love papercut so much and it doesn't matter if it's inside or here but inside is better, you are right.. but both are great..
he also says.. why does it look like night today instead of why does it feel like night today.. i dont really have an opinion on which is better but i like how "look like" rolls off the toungue.. also, i prefer inside vs. in here..
I like "inside" better too. Also I've heard Chester scream the last word of some of Mike's lines: Like a face that I hold INSIDE A face that awakes when I close my EYES A face that watches every time I LIE
something insides not right today is better as oppesed to something in here's not right today. But both sound good.
both are great but there are more changes i got the "new" and the "old" and there is a slight change in the music a that part but i can't say what... i'm pretty sure of that or....
That's what I've heard on the live Papercut's. I've heard Live in Texas's and Live in Orlando's Papercut and he says it in both. I'm not sure if he does in Collision Course's live performance, I'll go watch my DVD.
Papercut is my favorite LP song and I don't care if he says inside or in here as long as they keep singing it.
